I very much want to call her [name_f]Betty[/name_f] but OH is against this as it was the name of the woman that his late father ran off with leaving his mother and siblings.
I have my heart set on it and so find t hard to really like anything else. I do also like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
She legally should of been named by now and she hasn’t been. I’m also so tired of people asking about her name and discussing her name or lack of it !
From your list, and with siblings [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], my choice would be [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - lovely!
If you named her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], you could call her [name_f]Betty[/name_f] or [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname, but I personally would not use it as a child’s full name.
I was going to suggest something like Beatrice and then calling her Birdie/Betty if you’re truly set on the latter.
Quite honestly, I love all of your options, so I don’t think you can go wrong. However, I do think you should respect your partner’s decision in not wanting to use Betty. How about something similar…
I wouldn’t name my child [name_f]Betty[/name_f] if my partner didn’t agree on it. I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is really beautiful, especially with siblings [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. All your options are nice and suit well with the other siblings though!
I think [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] sounds beautiful with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. You should maybe create a poll here and have people vote on your shortlist, to make it easier for you?
Is [name_f]Betsey[/name_f] too close to [name_f]Betty[/name_f]?
I think [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betsey[/name_f] would be lovely with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]!
I really love Winnie and Birdie, Rosemary would also work well with her sister’s names. Pearl works as well but I think Winnie or Birdie has the charm of Betty and still works in your sibset well.
Given the very sensitive reason this name is a sore point for your partner, I would say you need to give up on Betty. You don’t want your child’s name to be such a bitter reminder.
To be fair it sounds like your husband’s negative association with the name is well founded!
Personally [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is my favourite, I think it’s such a beautiful name - but if I was going to throw anything into the pot to go with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] it would be:
I’m going to echo all the other posters and say that, while it’s a shame you can’t use your favourite, [name_f]Betty[/name_f] is off the table for good reason and you need to focus on the options you do have.
They are all gorgeous names! My personal favourite is [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] but any of your options works beautifully.
Yeah, I’d say that’s a good reason to nix [name_f]Betty[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and not [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] (it doesn’t seem a full name to me, plus it reminds me of whinny/whine).
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is classic. Incredibly feminine without being at all frou-frou. I’d love too be named [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is delightful and whimsical. If you like [name_f]Betty[/name_f], then [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] might work. It was the name of my late great grandmother so I am fond of it.
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is gorgeous.
What does she look like to you, I mean, which name?
What about [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]? I love that name or [name_f]Bess[/name_f] or [name_f]Bessie[/name_f].
I agree w/previous posters…[name_f]Betty[/name_f] is not usable. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is very similar in sound & as a pp said, [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] would make an adorable nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] for your taste, [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] would also be a cool nickname for:
Or you could go w/something like [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], which means dove, & use [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for a nickname.
If you like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], what about:
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
Rosabeth (you might use [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for a nn w/“beth” in the name)
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is the standard long name that gets [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a nickname, but I think these would work as long forms for the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]:
From your list I think [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] works really well. You could also call her [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for short.
As others have said, you could use a longer name - I particularly like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] - and use [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for short. Or [name_f]Beatie[/name_f] for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
And I second these lovely suggestions: [name_f]Peggy[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. Others: [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Meggie[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is really pretty with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is lovely too, but then you’d end up with 2 nature names and 1 not, which may or may not bother you.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is beautiful and is the perfect fit from your list.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
I like the suggestions of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] far better as a first.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (nn Flic/Fliss)
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] (formal [name_f]Willamina[/name_f]?)
I’m with others, [name_f]Betty[/name_f] should be off the table.
