I love the name Bex. It is similar to another favorite, [name_f]Lux[/name_f], without the unfortunate rhymes. However, I hate the name [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]/[name_f]Becca[/name_f] (and other spelling variations). I’m not usually too big on nicknames, but I worry that Bex just isn’t “enough” in the first spot. [name_f]One[/name_f] name that I do like is [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] with the nn Bex. I know it’s a boys name and I don’t care, so please don’t lecture about it being only for a boy.
Does anyone have any other names that can give the nickname Bex that wouldn’t be too far of a stretch?
Bex is spunky and unexpected, but be aware that it does rhyme with sex. (Having said that, I’ll add that one of my own favorite boy names is [name_m]Dex[/name_m], so I don’t consider the rhyme unbearable.) Some Bex name ideas:
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_m]Beacon[/name_m] (a stretch?)
[name_m]Beckham[/name_m] (very boyish, but if you are considering [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], you may like this too)
[name_m]Breccan[/name_m] (also boyish but doable)
just throwing the correct spelling of [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] out there. i hate the cc, plus the k and x makes more sense.
otherwise i like [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], it only feels feminine due to the tv show Castle character [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_m]Beckett[/name_m].
while adding an ‘e’ would feminize it, i wouldnt. you would not only have to deal with is it a boy/girl questions from just hearing the name, their entire life they’d have to say ‘[name_m]Beckett[/name_m] with an e at the end’. not worth the hassle.
also since [name_u]Beck[/name_u] is a name as well, she or anyone may end up spelling Bex - Becks and your trendy x may get lost.
I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn. Bex or [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] nn. Bex.
I don’t really care for [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and especially not [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nn. Bex could work.
I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknamed Bex (which works, as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] already has a million nicknames, including [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]/[name_f]Bets[/name_f] and [name_f]Bess[/name_f]. No one will wonder how you managed to get Bex out of it, and it seems like a modern nn for a lovely classic). I’ve never cared for the name [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] in any spelling but if you like it Bex works with it as well.
I know every other '[name_u]Berry[/name_u] adores [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] but I don’t “get” it, and Bex as a nn is one of those things where the nickname is so far removed from the normal nicknames for it that if I met a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nn Bex I’d assume her parents named her [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and then decided they hated it so they call her something else.
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m] and [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] are so trendy. I know a cute little toddler girl named [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] and I just can’t take it seriously as a name. She’s a cute kid but all I think of is her parents must be really obsessed with celebrities, which (being judgy here) automatically makes me assume they’re shallow and perhaps unintelligent.
I think your best bet would be [name_m]Beckett[/name_m]. I really love the name [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] as a male name, (and like the spelling as-is, for personal connection), even though I’ve been told it can be more feminine. From someone who’s recently been around the dirty minds of 12-13-14 year olds for 7+ hours a day, the Bex/sex connection will not go unnoticed. Someone with the nickname may have a difficult time during their teenage years, and the “X” may be dropped and replaced with “cks” for means of convenience.
I’m not really worried about bullying because of her name. Bex and sex to be is better than [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and sucks or f**ks. I love the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It is my favorite traditional name, but I feel my other daughter [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] would feel slighted if I gave her sister this name. Also, if her name was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] her nickname would be [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f] or [name_f]Busy[/name_f] (which I am partial to as a full first name itself).
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is cute, definitely don’t like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] (ick, bella!) I worry that [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] starts with the same sound at the end of [name_f]Maeby[/name_f]. This name might just not be meant to be!
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are both classic, so i can see [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn Bex as sisters. I could even see [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but their names would run together and it might sound like Maebeatrice at times.
