I don’t usually like nicknames as full names nor do I usually like boys names on girls BUT [name_u]Billie[/name_u]… I can’t help but want to honour my grandfather [name_m]William[/name_m] but I don’t like [name_f]Willa[/name_f]… I also adore [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]. What a great namesake in my opinion.
But I worry… is it too casual? too boyish? too [name_u]Billie[/name_u] Idol?
What are your thoughts on [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a full first name?
It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It’s against my rules. But I still kinda like it. I keep looking for [name_m]Bil[/name_m]- names it could be short for. I have a couple for me, but none with connections to [name_m]William[/name_m].
I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for is heaps cute! I’m friends with two girls with the name, one whose spelled [name_f]Billi[/name_f] which I prefer as it seems more feminine… There are plenty of girl names that are two syllable and end in an i sound so it wouldn’t be too nicknamey, i think boyish names on girls are actually pretty cool and spunky if it isn’t to masculine like [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]David[/name_m] haha
I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl! It reminds me of [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f], and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u](my favorite!)
Well, it worked for [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_m]King[/name_m] (she always goes by [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u], as a double name). It’s not my style, personally, but it’s definitely usable. [name_m]Just[/name_m] pick a really solid middle that’s not “cute” at all in case she’s a really serious type who doesn’t like “cutesy” or “nicknamey” names.
It’s okay. Not my thing, just okay. But I would spell it [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. [name_f]Billi[/name_f] reminds me of Biliruben which is a yellow product excreted in bile and urine.
Have you tried [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] (willa-mee-na or in my country will-hell-mee-na)? I really love it and I think it’s very feminine sounding. Plus, you get a lot of nickname choices. Some are [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_u]Wynn[/name_u]/[name_u]Wynne[/name_u] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f].
I strongly prefer [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f] as ways to honor a [name_m]William[/name_m] when naming a baby girl but [name_u]Billie[/name_u] does provide that honor element. It just doesn’t give your daughter much flexibility or many options.
I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u] but I would worry that it was a little casual, and if you had a very serious little girl, or a pink loving frilly little girl, Im not sure it would fit, so I second the suggestion of [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] to honor a [name_m]William[/name_m], it has lots of nn options and you could still call her [name_u]Billie[/name_u], and then later on she can style herself however she likes to fit her personality.
nns like [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_m]Bill[/name_m], [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Wilma[/name_f], [name_f]Minette[/name_f] , and probably more.
I think you can use [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a first name. If you can use [name_f]Molly[/name_f] or [name_f]Betty[/name_f], why not [name_u]Billie[/name_u]? I love Willhelmina though so I’d probably use [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a nn.
I absolutely love [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. It’s one of my favourites - honestly, I’d use it without a fuller name, but I also happen to love [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] which I think works perfectly.
As an honour for [name_m]William[/name_m]? I’d definitely do it. So lovely.
I love ALL cutesy B names… [name_f]Bibi[/name_f] is my no.1 at the minute. I also adore [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] though (I promise, I’m not obsessed with Dr. Who but growing up [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] was an absolute idol to me).
