Birth announcements to obituaries

Anyone else enjoy scrolling threw the birth announcements and obituaries to get a sense of the kinds of names you like or don’t like? Which do you find more interesting names from?

And do you google your name combos to see what kinds of hits you get?

I do buy The [name]Sunday[/name] Times on sundays (duh!) to look for inspiration or just a giggle! I like the obituaries (that sounds very terrible, I know), always some very cute names. I always start crying though… I like the birth announcements too, but I’m sick of seeing [name]Harry[/name], [name]India[/name] and [name]Florence[/name]. [name]Lovely[/name] names, but it feels like every other kid has one of these names.

I haven’t googled the name combos yet, but will be intersting… or most likely, extremely dull.

I have to admit, I did feel a bit odd when I started googling the name combos I had come up with, because most of the hits were for genealogy websites of people who where born in and around the turn of last century or earlier. I ended up ruled out one combo because of the write up I found on a person with that name, it wasn’t very flattering.

I do love looking at the birth announcements, it’s interesting to see the good, bad, and the ugly name combos. Some of the names are really smashing and some of them make my eyes bleed, but it’s always a hoot. It’s like watching a stock exchange for baby names, seeing the trends. In the area I’m living in apparently names like [name]Brianna[/name], [name]Brielle[/name], [name]Adalyn[/name], [name]Brayden[/name], [name]Jayden[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name], etc are all the rage. Occasionally I’ll see a little [name]Lucille[/name] or [name]Edna[/name] though.

I hadn’t thought to google my name combos, but it’s a good idea. I just did and while there are people using my fn/ln combos, nothing on my list immediately brings up any criminals or bad associations.

I googled my daughter’s name before she was born…even though it’s uncommon I wanted to be sure there was nothing to the combo that I didn’t realize!

I always check the birth announcements & obituaries to see if there’s anything interesting

I look at an online obituary section of our local paper almost daily. Its very morbid sounding, but I honestly do it to look at the names since I like older ones and the generations that are now passing in majority have some neat names, not to mention their siblings listed, parents etc.

There is a local hospital that has online newborn nursey pics and names, but I am finding most near me being password protected now.

Oh and a while back I found another [name]Bronwen[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], a daughter of a woman who had a blog! That was surreal, she is a lot ypunger but that combo spelled exactly the same, freaky! I also have found people with my kids first abd last names on FB!

In the obituaries the other day I saw Lulu Bernice and Ella Sophia. Beautiful names.

I found someone with my first and last name who’s a geneticist, and while I didn’t continue my education past my bachelor’s degree, I studied biology/genetics, so I thought that was pretty cool.
