I have been using the birth control pills for the last 3 years. Now i want a baby. Me and my partner have talked bout it and i want to get pregnant. But i am not sure on how should i behave with the pills.
Should i stop using them immediately and wait for my periods to come before i plan the pregnancy? Should we use contraceptives while having contact?
[name_m]How[/name_m] long do i have to stop the use of pills before we try.
Also i was sacred that the long usage of these pills should not harm my body and have any side affects on the baby? Does anyone know of that. Has anyone read anything like ghat or experienced the same before. Let me know your thoughts and views and i would be ready to follow the same. I have consulted my doctor and he has asked me to wait after popping the last pill.
I was told to wait for my first regular cycle to start trying. it makes sense to me, because it can take a while for your cycles to come back or be regular on their own again. I had the implant for 5 years and it didn’t seem to cause any issues, I can’t really say anything about the pill.
I’m currently on the pill as well but [name_f]September[/name_f] will be my last month on it. You can get pregnant immediately after coming off the pill which would not be harmful to your baby. I have also read that it is better to wait for your first regular cycle or at least 3 months after coming off the pill before trying. Either way, good luck!
Anyone else have any comments/suggestions for those trying after coming off the pill?
Each person is different. My cycle went back to normal straight after stopping the pill. I had my period like clockwork 4 weeks later, and then clockwork since. However, I know women that have taken months to feel right after going off synthetic hormones.
Statistically, a woman’s fertility comes back faster with implants, than with the pill. So you may need to be patient for a couple of cycles while your body adjust.
I think it’s probably best to give your body at least one cycle to try and balance itself once off the pill. It also gives you a chance to track your cycle and see what your body is doing.
I’m in a similar situation! I came off the pill at the end of [name_u]March[/name_u] and so far have only had 2 periods - I’ve not had one in 3 months. I was told it was best to wait until my cycles were regular again, although it’s still possible to get pregnant even though I’m not bleeding. I don’t believe there would be any problems with getting pregnant sooner than returning to regular cycles but it would make it easier for doctors to date the pregnancy etc. Good luck!
The main reason that some women are told to wait until their first period after coming off BCPs is because it makes it easier to tell when you are fertile/when you conceived. The same reason is given for going ahead and finishing a pack of BCPs instead of stopping mid-pack–it makes it easier to track your cycle. Some women begin to ovulate again right away after coming off BCP (I was using OPKs, and know that I ovulated like normal 2 weeks after stopping BCPs and before getting my first regular period back), but some take a couple of months for their bodies to begin regulating their hormones again, and they may or may not ovulate when expected.
Personally, I went off BCP one month earlier than I wanted to actively start trying to get pregnant, so we used alternative protection.
Bottom line, know that when you go off BCPs you could get pregnant immediately (even before having a regular period), so use backup contraception if you’re not ready to get pregnant. If you’re shooting for a specific time frame to conceive (like in a couple months), perhaps consider going off BCP a month or two early in case you are someone who needs a couple months for your hormones and ovulation to regulate, and using alternative contraception in the meantime.
Several studies have shown no adverse affect to a baby conceived while/shortly after the mother was taking BCP, so no worries there. [name_f]Do[/name_f] be sure to go ahead and start taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid, though!
I conceived my 3 year old when I stopped taking my birth control pills for about a month. I was going to switch to a new brand, but I was already pregnant. This time, I stopped birth control in [name_u]January[/name_u] and got pregnant sometime in [name_u]March[/name_u] or [name_f]April[/name_f]. The first time, I had been taking the pills for about 6 years, second time only 2.5 years. My daughter has no issues, and this one seems to be healthy as well.
