Bishop

Hello! The name Bishop for a girl has been growing on me recently, especially with nn Bliss and Bee. But is it wearable among girls names James and Beck? Or is it more wearable as a middle name. And any mn or fn suggestions for Bishop is appreciated, TIA!

I’m not personally a fan. I can’t get past the religious context.

Personally prefer it as a mn, but I can totally see it as a first for a girl, it’s spunky and familiar. Gives me the same vibes as [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u] or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. I would pair it with elegant/cute girly middle.

I’m not a massive fan I think it’s a bit harsh in sound and very serious with the strong religious context to me it’s like naming your child [name_m]Priest[/name_m], [name_m]Rabbi[/name_m] or Imam just a bit odd

I second what two other posters said - the religious connection is too much for a kid. If anything, I could see it as a middle on a boy

I think it would be a better middle. It could definitely pass for a first with all the Blake/James etc names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my personal style would use it for a middle. I like more traditional girl names with stronger middles, like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] for examples.

I think it could work but I’m not the hugest fan. I’d prefer it as a middle

I don’t think it’s wearable for any gender, I just can’t see it as a name. I see it as an… odd word to use as a name.

I’d probably pair it with a classic name, for example [name_m]Bishop[/name_m] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Nothing obviously religious though.

I think it would be a cool unisex name for either gender! It isn’t my thing, but it definitely feels right up your alley! (+ nn Bliss and Bee are just :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:)

I may be wrong but, as I understand it, bishops are traditionally and overwhelmingly male. The religious leaders, I mean. I tried to look this up and it does seem like there are or have been female ones but it still has a strong male connotation to me.

I know bishop isn’t only religious, such as the chess piece, but I think it is the strongest association. Thus I don’t think it is all that wearable on a female. I’d suggest looking into it more and making sure it isn’t inappropriate.
