Could [name]Bliss[/name] work for a boy? It is a family name and I have always loved it. Growing up I imagined it on a boy and was surprised to see that people use it for girls. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Bliss[/name] works on a boy?
For me, it’s all girl. The ending liss sound is a lot like [name]Alice[/name], and imo, a very feminine sound overall.
I would definitely save the name for a girl. Sorry.
[name]Bliss[/name] could work fine on a boy it’s unisex
Technically unisex but it feels feminine to me…not a sound based thing, just a common usage thing. Like [name]Joy[/name]…not especially girly sounding, word name, but female connection. If you love it, why not? Or use it in the middle if you feel wary about it! It could be a nickname for [name]Ulysses[/name] as well I think. Or for a B first-name with [name]Ulysses[/name] in the middle.
I think I probably would use it as a middle name…but maybe use the nickname [name]Bliss[/name].
Taz I like your suggestion of using [name]Ulysses[/name] to get to [name]Bliss[/name]! [name]Ulysses[/name] is actually a family name too. Ha…come to think of it, my last name has 2 s’s in it so maybe I could just pick a “B” name and still use [name]Bliss[/name] as a nickname. I don’t know, maybe that would be too much of a stretch
I think [name]Bliss[/name] would be ok since it’s a family name, but I’d prefer it in the middle. Bloom is used to very handsome affect, so why not [name]Bliss[/name]? [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Ulysses[/name], especially as a middle in combination with a B name. To get to the nickname [name]Bliss[/name]:
[name]Barnabas[/name] [name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Blake[/name] [name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Bly[/name] [name]Ulysses[/name]
though [name]Ulysses[/name] [name]Bly[/name] or [name]Ulysses[/name] [name]Blake[/name] are better flow-wise than the reverse.
[name]Blaze[/name]
[name]Basil[/name] (I find this name so delightful. An aromatic herb and a saint!)
To use just [name]Bliss[/name] in the middle, I think you need a first name with substance:
[name]Isaac[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Bertram[/name] [name]Bliss[/name] (If you’re up for a little alliteration- I always am- [name]Bertram[/name] means “bright raven.” With [name]Bliss[/name], oh yes.)
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Hadrian[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Lucien[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Eli[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
I love your suggestions!! I never knew the meaning of [name]Bertram[/name], but I love it! [name]Theodore[/name] is another name I like, and it has family ties as well! I like the sound of [name]Basil[/name] too. I never considered it before, but it has a nice sound.
[name]Bliss[/name] I just cannot picture on a boy. To old lady sounding to me.
As long as you use it as a middle name, I suppose it could work. He might take a little ridicule for it when he’s older though.
[name]Even[/name] for a girl, I can’t imagine it as anything other than an exotic dancer’s name. Sorry. :\
No, not on either gender. It’s really not an actual “name” to me, other than a very cutesy nickname for a girl. On a boy and eventually a grown man it would sound extremely silly.
I think [name]Ulysses[/name] is a great name option. As a family name, [name]Bliss[/name] in the middle would be nice. Whatever the decision, a primary consideration should be whether it’s likely that he will appreciate and be proud of his name. Some names are riskier than others in that regard.
I like it more for a boy. Sounds like a prostitute name on a girl
The sound is similar to [name]Chris[/name] so I don’t see it as so far out for a boy. I also like [name]Blithe[/name]
I think it could work, but personally I’d put it in the middle spot for a boy.
I can only picture it on a girl, personally. I’ve heard it on a female characters on “[name]Doctor[/name] Who” and in a feminist novel called “The Women’s Room.” [name]Both[/name] are pretty obscure references though.
I can only picture [name]Bliss[/name] on a girl (even in the middle). It’s very feminine and to be honest, I don’t think it’s a name that a boy would enjoy having.
I think it would be fine in the middle, but it’s a name I have a hard time picturing any boy or grown man appreciating having to answer to. It’s almost sticky-sweet.
I think it sounds great for a boy. Like [name]Haven[/name] or [name]Blaise[/name], both names I’ve heard on men, it’s softer but that doesn’t mean feminine to me.
Thank you for your input. I don’t really think I would use it as a first…but growing up I thought it would be a cool boy name. My male family members with the last name “[name]Bliss[/name]” would sometimes get called “[name]Bliss[/name]” instead of their first name and I think that is why I always thought it could work for a boy. It really does go to show how life experiences really do completely change one’s perspective on many things…names included.
No way…very very girly
