Blitzen?

My husband and I both love this name, but it gets a lot of laughs and ridicule from others.

Middle name best.

Bc it’s one of [name_f]Santa[/name_f]’s reindeers?
Maybe a spunky MN?

Yep

I don’t think it’s usable, maybe [name_u]Bliss[/name_u] or [name_u]Blaise[/name_u]? If you want a more winter/Christmasy name maybe [name_u]Holly[/name_u], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], or [name_f]Belle[/name_f]!

I’m afraid The [name_u]Night[/name_u] Before [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] starts running in my head. Maybe as an adventurous middle?

Is there anything specific about it that appeals to you? The sounds, or the connotations?

My first thought was the reindeer. [name_f]My[/name_f] second thought was the [name_u]London[/name_u] Blitz :grimacing: I don’t think the reindeer association is enough to say it’s unusable (people still use the name [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] / [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]). But when I think of the bombings I really dislike it (but I wouldn’t laugh at it, that’s mean :pensive:)

I think of the reindeer! I don’t think it’s a bad name (after all people name their children names that literally mean deer >_<) I think it’s the spelling that makes me not consider it a good first name but a middle name! When in doubt make it a middle name, however, more “acceptable” names are:

  • Rebel
  • Riot
  • Blaise
  • Haise/Hayes

I overall think you should go for it! Sure it’s weird but the association isn’t bad at all and while I don’t like the spelling (looks awkward), I have no problem with it in general and am actually found of strange names (having one myself!)

Welcome
I’m very sorry to say but the first thought that crossed my mind was the Blitz. I’m not so sure that it gives off any [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] spirit even if it obviously is the name of [name_f]Santa[/name_f]’s raindeer, but I cannot be the judge of that. I hope to be as kind and polite as possible, but putting the blitz connection away, it has a cartoony vibe to it that might not be great to grow up with.
How do you feel about [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_u]Gracen[/name_u]?

I think it would make a fun middle name! It would definitely add some pizzazz to a more common first name, and could be used with a wide variety of names.

Olivia Blitzen
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Blitzen
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] Blitzen
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] Blitzen

Definitely would not use as a first name!

To be completely honest, it reminds me of the reindeer!
It’s got alot of spunk to it though, I could possibly see it being used as a cool middle.

I think it would make a great middle name

It’s really not usable…

I personally wouldn’t use it for a fn but as a mn because I think it would be linked to the reindeer. So as a mn I think it would look nice and spunky!

I want to love it because of the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] association, but I just can’t, sorry. I think it unfortunately comes off as comical rather than whimsical. Maybe this could just be a fun nickname?

If I ignore all connotations it is super cool as a name. I think that the connotations fade as you get to know a person. What if it was spelled like Blitson or something? Or [name_u]Britton[/name_u] would maybe be close enough that you still love it.

Not funny.

I don’t think it’s usable, honestly. Unlike [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] and [name_m]Cupid[/name_m], the only usage of Blitzen as a name I’ve ever heard is the reindeer. Plus, the “Blitz” syllable has its own negative connotations too.

How about [name_u]Bergen[/name_u]? [name_f]Jinx[/name_f]? [name_f]Doutzen[/name_f]? [name_u]Brighton[/name_u]?

Keep it in the middle name slot.
