What does everyone think of [name]Beyonce[/name] and [name]Jay[/name]-Z’s baby’s name?
I am so upset! We had chosen [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] four our daughter due in [name]April[/name]. I loved how unique and unheard of it was. Now it is gaining global attention and I’m sure it will rise in popularity. I would never want to hear someone respond to her name by saying “Oh, Like [name]Beyonce[/name]'s baby”.
As far as [name]Blue[/name] goes, Anyone with a toddler is thinking of Blues Clues. It is also the color that is associated with sadness. Not a name I would ever consider!!
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] would have been much better than [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]… Ugh.
Well I didn’t see them naming her [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Carter[/name]! I actually love [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] (better than [name]Tiana[/name] [name]May[/name]). I realize a lot of name purists are gonna balk but I think they could have done [name]WAY[/name] worse. Congrats [name]Beyonce[/name] & [name]Jay[/name]-Z!
[name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] - UGH!!! Like pp, I would have AT LEAST gone with [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] (a tiny bit better). I love the name [name]Ivy[/name] but NOT with [name]Blue[/name]…OMG
I think its cute and I definately like it better than [name]Tiana[/name] [name]May[/name], but to me it sounds like a kind of plant.
Although I do personally like [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] better I still think [name]Blue[/name] is a fantastic name. I just dont like it in combination with [name]Ivy[/name] as a middle. Maybe if they had added a third name in it would have a better flow, it almost feels prematurely cut short.
I think it’s adorable. Blues clues is a great association for a child (Blues clues is a girl) and it’s filled with meaning. I always thought of the color blue as clear and clean and pure, but maybe that’s just me. [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] is better than [name]Tiana[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
Be and [name]Jay[/name]-Z’s reason:
[name]Blue[/name] is [name]Jay[/name]-Z’s favorite color and they met while he was promoting Blueprint.
[name]Ivy[/name] is like the [name]Roman[/name] numerals IV, which means 4. Be and Jay_Z’s b-day are on 4s, her moms is, her wedding day was april (4), 4th. Obamas the 44th pres., he was elected the fourth, her album is named 4, etc, etc
I agree that [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] would have been so much better. Though I’ve heard conflicting reports that the name really IS [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name]… does anyone have confirmation at all?
Anyways, I think [name]Ivy[/name] is a nice name (NMS but nice). I’m much more accepting of strange middle names so I guess [name]Blue[/name] would be ok for a middle name. But if it really is [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]… yuck.
You know what? I actually kind of love it! While i do think [name]Blue[/name] is better suited for a little guy, I can definitely see this working - I mean, no matter what Be and [name]Jay[/name]-Z’s childs name is, they are going to succeed in life!
and myowngildedbutterfly, you hit the nail on the head with that associated of [name]Ivy[/name] ad IV (4) - i would have never thought of that but that is surely their reasoning behind that choice! [name]Love[/name] it!
Congrats on what i’m sure is a beautiful baby girl!
The name has great significance to them, and that makes it special. I personally do not like the name [name]Blue[/name]… as others mentioned, [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] would have, [name]IMO[/name] been a much better choice! I actually adore [name]Ivy[/name]… very cute!
I think it’s horrid. [name]Blue[/name] sounds ridiculous as a first name and even though I love [name]Ivy[/name], their reason for choosing it as a middle name is stupid. [name]Ivy[/name] has nothing to do witih the number four (IV, really?) and it just makes them sound completely ignorant to claim they choose it because the number four is signficant to them.
They had it so right with [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name]
Now [name]Harper[/name] [name]Seven[/name] can play with [name]Blue[/name] Four oops I mean IV. [name]Ivy[/name]? Fine whatever.
“My favorite hue is [name]Jay[/name]-Z blue” (Go Crazy - [name]Young[/name] Jeezy, ft. [name]Jay[/name]-Z).
I’m going to have to go with [name]Viv[/name] on this one - I actually think [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] is pretty cool! Did I initially think [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name] was better? Yes. Actually, [name]Blue[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] are two names that I love and I’d even consider using [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Blue[/name]. But, [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] itself is more striking and potentially more significant, especially to [name]Jay[/name]-Z. As [name]Abby[/name] points out in today’s blog, [name]Blue[/name] isn’t that crazy by celebrity standards ([name]Elijah[/name] [name]Blue[/name] [[name]Cher[/name]], [name]Ella[/name] [name]Bleu[/name] [[name]John[/name] Travolta & [name]Kelly[/name] [name]Preston[/name]], [name]Bear[/name] [name]Blu[/name] [[name]Alicia[/name] Silverstone], [name]Adele[/name] [name]Laurie[/name] [name]Blue[/name]), whereas [name]Ivy[/name] isn’t terribly common in the celeb circuit, although the style (vintage floral) is far more familiar. Maybe being blue means feeling sad, but blue is also a very peaceful, yet strong, color - and when you think of blue skies and blue birds and blue bells and all those lovely things, I think the image [name]Blue[/name] gives off is one of whimsy rather than woe. [name]Ivy[/name] fits with today’s names, and the names of yesterday, and I find the connection to IV, four, interesting, playful, and far more poetic than, say, four. The could’ve used [name]April[/name], I suppose, or Quatro, but [name]Ivy[/name]? Ladylike, sweet, substantial, but with just enough of a hint of IV that it totally works for me as a means of honoring a number so close to both parents’ hearts. Overall, I find the combination interesting and unique but fairly wearable and substantially meaningful - I only wish [name]Alicia[/name] Silverstone’s [name]Bear[/name] [name]Blu[/name] had a similar sort of explanation…
Congrats to [name]Beyonce[/name] and [name]Jay[/name]-Z. Whatever her name is, I’m sure [name]Baby[/name] Girl [name]Carter[/name] will be loved and lovely.

Such an anti climax. Firstly I have no problem with [name]Blue[/name] as a name in general but paired with [name]Ivy[/name] its pretty ridiculous I mean ivy is green not blue! Also the name [name]Blue[/name] is so common amongst celebs and [name]Ivy[/name] is a top 30 name in Australia. And the Beckhams just named their daughter after a number. Was hoping for something more obscure, feminine and strong.
[name]Just[/name] because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean they need something crazy. That’s not the name I would pick for my daughter, but I have no problem with it. Why should they have to pick something really obscure, or really classic? [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] is actually a bit of a nameberry name.
I may be in the minority, but I like [name]Blue[/name]. It’s cute. I don’t know how well it will age, but it’s a good cutesy name. I also like [name]Ivy[/name]. Not crazy about the combination, but it could have been [name]WAY[/name] worse.
meh, no problem with either name but together… not a fan to be honest.
I like it–it’s offbeat enough that people aren’t going to hear and think, “really? two people renowned for their creativity came up with something that boring?” but also not so far away from current trends that it seems like a massively effortful stretch. I don’t associate “[name]Blue[/name]” with sadness at all–to me it says happy, bouncy, colorful.
The “[name]Ivy[/name]”=“IV”=“4” connection seems like kind of a stretch, but at least it’s a nice name on its own too.
I know I’m late on this but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name], I’m a massive [name]Jay[/name]-z and [name]Beyonce[/name] fan. I love how the name has so much meaning to them, blue relating to [name]Jay[/name]-Zs blueprint albums being his greatest creation, so therefore [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] is his greatest ever creation (youtube the song [name]Glory[/name], by [name]Jay[/name]) and [name]Ivy[/name] is for their love of the number 4,roman numerals IV.
I’m so happy for [name]Jay[/name] and Bey on their beautiful daughter
