Bo for a boys name?

What do you all think of the name [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a first name for a boy? I dont mean as a nickname but as thr actual name.

I think it works. I prefer it to the [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling. Some might say it doesn’t have enough “substance” to be a first name, but I like it

I like the name. I think it’s handsome (no pun intended). The [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling is more popular, but (if I’m not mistaken) [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is used in Denmark and [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] so a perfectly acceptable variation.

Hubs prefers the spelling [name_u]Bo[/name_u], my only concern is people with associate it with body odor. [name_f]Do[/name_f] yall find this to be true when you see the spelling [name_u]Bo[/name_u]?

This is actually the exact reason I prefer it spelled [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. [name_u]Bo[/name_u] makes me think of B.O. I wish it didn’t because [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is short and sweet. Either way, it’s a wonderful name. One of my favorites!

It has a southern gentleman thing going on.

I prefer [name_m]Beau[/name_m] over [name_u]Bo[/name_u] but you could always use a (slightly) longer variation ([name_m]Bowen[/name_m], [name_m]Boden[/name_m], etc.) to get to nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u]

I didn’t associate [name_u]Bo[/name_u] with B.O. but now that you’ve mentioned it, I do. So don’t mention it any more. However, I can see someone asking how to spell his name and the proud little boy replying back “B.O!” I think the name is really short and sweet which is nice, but IDK how well the name could fit a business man or a president or something. I guess in either of those positions he could go by Mr. Last Name, but still.

I would use [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. I can only imagine someone asking them to spell their name and say B-O and everyone laughing, now that would be embarrassing.

[name_u]Bo[/name_u] is fairly common in the South, although it’s more of a nickname (for any name) than a given name. I prefer this spelling over [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. [name_m]Beau[/name_m] just looks unnecessary to me.

I have a friend named [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and I’ve never associated it with B.O. I kind of like the simplicity of the spelling vs. [name_m]Beau[/name_m] and I think it’s definitely usable!

I’ve loved [name_u]Bo[/name_u] ever since I read a book with a little boy who was mainly referred to as [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. But I have it on my list as [name_m]Beau[/name_m], because it feels a little more substantial and I kind of prefer the [name_u]Bo[/name_u] spelling for a girl. Either way I really love [name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u]. It’s so adorable, but I think would work so well. Still struggling for middles though.

I know a few people named [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. I’ve never met a [name_m]Beau[/name_m] but I know it is a more common name. Personally I don’t think it’s a problem and think that it’s a fine name. You don’t always have to go with the popular opinion, but you should go with what you and your partner like the most.

I have always thought of [name_m]Beau[/name_m] for boys and [name_u]Bo[/name_u] for girls ([name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_u]Bo[/name_u] Peep). The [name_u]Bo[/name_u] spelling does have the B.O. issue. Can you convince DH to use the [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling instead. This name was one of our top contenders so, I love it. Good luck, I hope you get to use it!

I find it insubstantial, and definitely prefer the [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling (as a nn). Beaudelaire would be an interesting fn option, though it’s somewhat effeminate.

It simply looks too short for me. I prefer the [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling.

[name_u]Bo[/name_u] is a pretty common name here in the South, and I’ve never heard anyone suggest “body odor” for [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. If you’re kid stinks, maybe they would do something like that, but in most cases, probably unlikely.

That being said, I can’t stand the name. For one, it’s dated. I’m early 30’s and all the [name_u]Bo[/name_u]'s I know are now dads, so it’s become one of those “dad names”. For another, it just doesn’t seem like a name at all, no matter how it’s spelled.

I like both [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. There are arguments for and against both. I didn’t see B.O. until you pointed it out. [name_u]Bo[/name_u] leaves me looking for another “b” to make [name_m]Bob[/name_m]. For that reason I prefer the [name_m]Beau[/name_m] spelling. Either way, the +/- are pretty minor in my mind. If [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is what you and your husband are liking then definitely go for it!

I like it a lot! I went to college in the Midwest–at least half the time–so I attended with both a [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and a [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. I wouldn’t bat an eye at meeting either, although, since [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f]‘s my favorite girls’ name, I think I’d opt for [name_u]Bo[/name_u], just because it doesn’t automatically connect with the same meaning like belle and beau do in [name_m]French[/name_m]. I have [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u] on my list, but [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] connects in a very special way to my grandmother, so it’s not that I was just that desperate for a long form for [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. I absolutely adore [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], but I think just [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is fine, especially since just [name_m]Beau[/name_m] is used all the time, too. I think something like [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m], or [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] would be great! I think I’m probably biased, though, because my combo is [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and I nearly did [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Willem[/name_m].

Good luck!

Would yall go with a longer middle name to offset the short fn or stIck with another shorter name for the middle name?
