I am trying so hard to find a girl name that I love.
My grandmother’s name is [name]Bonnie[/name]. I have (strongly) disliked her name all my like…until I was driving home yesterday and realized that I might love it instead of hate it! I KNOW my husband is going to have a bad first impression when I bring it up, but if I can bring him to think through to the second impression…I think it might be the name we have been searching for. I want to be fully prepared when I talk to him though.
My biggest concern is that it isn’t dated enough to be classy. It has a beautiful meaning, family sentiment and goes great with my naming convention. My other kids’ names are [name]Rowen[/name] and [name]Colt[/name]. [name]Rowen[/name], [name]Colt[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name].
What are your thoughts?
I’ve always liked [name]Bonnie[/name], to me, it brings up an image of a little pioneer girl. Gone With The Wind isn’t too bad of a connection either. To me, it’s one of the few names that end with an “ee” sound that doesn’t sound too nicknamey or little girlish. I also thing [name]Rowen[/name], [name]Colt[/name], and [name]Bonnie[/name] would be adorable together!
I like [name]Bonnie[/name], and, to me, it isn’t too dated. However, that is probably only because we have a very young, alive, passionate [name]Bonnie[/name] on my newspaper staff. I think the name works well!
I think that if you like it and it has personal meaning to you, then you should use it!
Honoring a grandparent is such a special thing to be able to do. I’d say to use it in either a first or middle spot. Personally, I feel it’s a bit dated off-the-cuff, but who says your little girl can’t bring it back?!
I think it’s not dated enough to be back in fashion
Are there other names you could use to honor her?
[name]Bonnie[/name] is cute. There are so many little girls with old-fashioned/dated/nicknamey names out there that she’ll fit right in. I’d love to meet a little girl named [name]Bonnie[/name]…and I’m sure she’ll appreciate the special family meaning, and being the only one in her class, as opposed to just another [name]Sophia[/name] or something.
I actually really like the name “[name]Bonnie[/name]”. It’s short, sweet, and spunky. You don’t hear it often which is nice, and I think a little [name]Bonnie[/name] would fit in with today’s old but new again names.
More positive feedback than I was expecting…that is good!
[name]One[/name] friend suggested that it didn’t have a “grown-up” version. I suppose that it does seem rather childish and nicknamey, but it is hard to think of in that light when the [name]Bonnie[/name] I know is so old!
The more I think about it, the more I love [name]Rowen[/name], [name]Colt[/name] and [name]Bonnie[/name] together. But also, the more I think about it, the more I believe my husband will hate it.
Any middle name suggestions? At first I fell in love with [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Jo[/name], but that seems to enhance the no-grown-up-version theory. I would like to honor a few people, here are a few of their names: [name]James[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Joe[/name], [name]Allen[/name]. (I know - all boys, but be creative!) Maybe [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Jameson[/name]?
[name]Love[/name] the same [name]Bonnie[/name]! I don’t see it as childish at all, more retro dated but in a good way.
Wouldn’t go with [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]James[/name]/[name]Jameson[/name] since they remind me of [name]James[/name] [name]Bond[/name] (may not be a problem for you just thought I would point it out).
[name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]- You could still call her [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Jo[/name].
[name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Alena[/name]/[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Johannah[/name]
I’m crazy about [name]Bonnie[/name]. It’s solidly in my top 2 for a girl. It might actually be my #1. [name]Bonnie[/name] is so sunny and sweet, and I actually think its “datedness” keeps it from feeling as lightweight as many other -ie ending names. In any event, datedness doesn’t really bother me. I prefer to think of [name]Bonnie[/name] as retro-spunky. (It’s not that far outside the “hundred-year rule” anyway; In 1913, it was a top 200 name. By 1927, it was sharing the top 100 with names already experiencing a revival, like [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Alma[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Clara[/name]…)
[name]Bonnie[/name] is great with your kids’ names. For combos, and using your honoring names for inspiration, how about [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Petra[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Danica[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Alaina[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] Petronel, [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]James[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Alanis[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Alina[/name], or [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Dana[/name]. [name]Peter[/name] means “stone,” so you could also look at gem and mineral names.
I love the name [name]Bonnie[/name]. I knew a [name]Bonnie[/name] in high school who was really outgoing and popular. Everyone loved her.
I think it especially works with [name]Colt[/name].
I don’t find it nicknamey. It’s able to stand alone just fine in my opinion. And it still works on a grown woman - ie [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Hunt[/name].
I have always loved [name]Bonnie[/name]! It is so sweet. It always reminds me of Gone with the wind.
I actually know someone who has a 10mth old [name]Bonnie[/name] and it is adorable on her. Come to think of it her middle name was something like [name]Josephine[/name] and i like the flow of it.
My sister-in-law is named [name]Bonnie[/name] and she totally changed my opinion of the name. She is cute, young (late 20s now) and fun, and she loves her name!! I think it is a little dated, which makes it a unique and quirky/cute choice for a baby girl! And, I love honoring family members with names. It gives the name special meaning, and I think it gives an extra sense of familial belonging to the child
I think [name]Bonnie[/name] would fit right in with all the little Maisies, Hatties and [name]Winnie[/name]'s. It’s a lovely name
It’s not my favorite name but I must say that I do like it for your sibset. First impressions:
- [name]Bonnie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name]
- [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Hunt[/name]
- [name]Bonnie[/name] the little girl from [name]Toy[/name] [name]Story[/name] 3
[name]Bonnie[/name] is breezy, bouncy, and sweet. I love it. [name]How[/name] about [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (instead of [name]James[/name]) or [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]?
I really like [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Jane[/name], but I think that is a stretch for honoring a “[name]James[/name]”.
[name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is my favorite, but I suspect it will be vetoed.
Maybe [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] to honor the “[name]Daniel[/name]”?
[name]Danielle[/name] isn’t my favorite name, but maybe a good combo of retro and current and honoring?
Think I may be falling in love with the “[name]Rowen[/name], [name]Colt[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name]” combo! [name]Hope[/name] my hubby doesn’t crush it! I feel like they flow and match with the styles o’s and n’s. ([name]Colt[/name]'s full name is [name]Colton[/name], but we always call him [name]Colt[/name].)
