Bowen?

My husband and I are really struggling with naming our baby boy. I am due in couple weeks and we still haven’t landed on a name we love. The one name that keeps coming up is [name_m]Bowen[/name_m]. We would most likely call him [name_m]Bowen[/name_m], but I know he’ll inherently be called [name_u]Bo[/name_u] by others which I think were okay with. I typically like more classic names, but can’t seem to find any that fit. Our last name starts with an E and is pretty long so don’t want to get too crazy with a first name!

What does everyone think of [name_m]Bowen[/name_m]? Or any suggestions for others? We’ll use a family name as middle name regardless ([name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], among others).

Thanks!!!

I quite like [name_m]Bowen[/name_m], although I think it may get confused for [name_u]Owen[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but that would be my only hesitation.

You may also like [name_m]Boden[/name_m] …I like it better when spelt Beauden, but I still think [name_m]Boden[/name_m] is great for its simplicity

I agree that [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] is very close to [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. I also think it looks very made up in my opinion. I prefer just [name_u]Beau[/name_u]. It sounds like you were going to call him that anyway and it has a wonderful meaning. I also like [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] which would bring you to ‘[name_u]Bo[/name_u]’.

I really like the sound of [name_m]Bowen[/name_m]. He might be called [name_u]Bo[/name_u] sometimes, but I wouldn’t assume exclusively–[name_m]Bowen[/name_m] is only two syllables after all. I love the possibility of [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] as a nickname (I’m a big [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] fan, myself, but I think it’s also just a good nickname on its own).

It probably would get confused with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] sometimes, but there are a lot of names with the “owen” sound ([name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], Cowan, Lowan), so I don’t think it would be hard for people to remember it, either.

I don’t think it looks (or is) “made up”–I just googled it, is has a long use mainly as a surname, with lots of place names, and both a Welsh (son of [name_u]Owen[/name_u]) and Irish (from [name_m]Bohan[/name_m], I think) origin.

I say go for it if it’s the name you keep returning to!

I love it! I can’t see an issue as far as it getting confused with [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Rowen[/name_u], etc. There are lots of names that have the same sounds and that isn’t a problem. [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] has a distinguished vibe, is masculine, and isn’t too common but definitely recognizable. I agree that some may shorten it to [name_u]Bo[/name_u] when he’s older, which I’m sure is fine, but I would stay with [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] and all the middle names are great, my favourite being [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. Go for it!

I really like it.

go with [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] if that is the name you like. I think it is a great name and no I would not have thought of [name_u]Owen[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] etc… at all. [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is a great nn or [name_m]Bowie[/name_m]. Great name, go for it. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the fact it is not so common

I love [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] and would Have it on my list, but I live near a [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] place (and my dog has a [name_u]Bo[/name_u] name). I say go for it!

I like it. It’s cool and different
