Bowie

Could [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] be used on a girl? I saw someone asking about it on another baby name site and it made me start thinking on it…

Maybe something like…

[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_u]Layne[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_u]June[/name_u]

What do you think?

I agree that [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] would be a cute girl name! It immediately gives images of [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] who was a huge advocate for eliminating gender norms and I think using his name on a little girl is a great way to honor that. It also has the same sound as names like [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] so I don’t think it would be hard for people to see it as feminine.

100%, [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] was always androgynous and challenged gender stereotypes anyway, it’s definitely a gender neutral name

Definitely. I’ve seen [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] used on a girl before and I think it works no problem.

[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] is one of the few names i love on both genders! it’s lovely and i agree with what everyone said, [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] was androgynous and he broke gender stereotypes so it totally makes sense that is an unisex name

I love all of this positive feedback!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

As a nickname.

For what?

Coming from a fan of [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], I would advise against using [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], even though he’s a queer icon, and somewhat of a role model; for me it’s a bit hard to look pass the intercourse he had between two underage girls, even if both girls consented or enjoyed themselves.

I like it more for a boy, but it’s a nice name for both genders! Totally usable. I like [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_u]Layne[/name_u]
