boy #3--another A name?

I’m struggling with weather or not to use another A name for our third baby boy, due in [name_u]July[/name_u]. This is likely our last child, and I’m trying to decide if three brothers with the same first initial is charming or cheesy–help!

My husband and I like names that are a bit unusual but not unfamiliar. Our older sons are [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] (6) and [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] (3).

Middle name will be [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], or [name_m]Scott[/name_m]–all family honor names, same as the older two boys.

A names in the running are:
Ames
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]

Thoughts or suggestions welcomed

I love Ames/[name_m]Eames[/name_m] for you and it could be the best of both worlds. I like the spelling [name_m]Eames[/name_m] and you would get away from three “A” names but still get the “A” pronunciation. I think the [name_m]Eames[/name_m] spelling is the traditional spelling.

Three As is a little much for me personally, but I do like the names [name_u]August[/name_u] and Ames/[name_m]Eames[/name_m].

Other ideas:
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Mathias[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_u]Reed[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Thayer[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]

First, I love Ames and was literally looking it up elsewhere before heading to this forum so, crazy! Second, I think you lean toward liking A names (also [name_m]Eames[/name_m] is NOT pronounced the same as Ames) so I would lean into to it! They are all such great names that I do not think it sounds cheesy at all. I’m surprised that I’m liking Ames [name_m]Scott[/name_m] (even with the back to back Ss) but I think it sounds smart. I do love the name [name_u]Logan[/name_u] over your other middle choices but [name_m]Scott[/name_m] seems to flow well with all of them.

Good luck! Boy names are so tough!

I love [name_u]Auden[/name_u] with your sons names! [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] is very handsome. I also like [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m].

Some suggestions:
[name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] &

[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_u]Amory[/name_u]
[name_m]Aries[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_u]Austen[/name_u]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]

Good luck!

I think you’re in a pretty fortunate position name-wise. If you choose not to go with an A name, it won’t seem out of place (2 children with A names doesn’t make a rule), but if you do want an A name, well, you have several that you like. Personally, I’m pretty neutral on the concept - I wouldn’t count it as charming or cheesy. From the list of names you mentioned, I like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m]. Not so much Ames or [name_u]Auden[/name_u].

What handsome names your boys have! I love them both. As far as your question, I’m going to give you a totally cliché answer ;). Go with what you love. If I were in your situation I definitely wouldn’t make an outstanding effort to find another A- name. Search out names you love, and if they begin with A, cool. If they don’t that’s great too. I don’t think it’s cheesy if you choose another A- name, as long as you love it and it’s not just to fit the “theme” of your other boys names!
I do love the names [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] and [name_u]Auden[/name_u].

I love your boys’ names.

My first choice would be to pick an A name for the third, if there is one you can find that you like. There seems to be a wealth of great names. Many have been suggested so far. Here are some suggestions to consider…

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m], [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and…

[name_u]Alden[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
Ames [name_u]Logan[/name_u], Ames jackson, Ames [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Anson[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_u]Alton[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]

I generally prefer three different starting initials, but since you have 2 A’s, might as well have 3 if you’d like to.

So, [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbot[/name_u], and [name_u]Auden[/name_u]?
[name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbot[/name_u], and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m]?
[name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbot[/name_u], and [name_u]August[/name_u]?

They really all sound fine. I would just pick the one I liked best if I were you. Ames to me sounds a bit like a butler’s name.

As for middles, I like:
[name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]

Good luck!
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]

PS What about [name_u]Alden[/name_u]?

I say use another A! I think it’s cute.

If he is your last, I wouldn’t want him to feel left out!! Plus, not cheesy! Very charming!!

I like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] with them!!

I think you should use another A name and ideally try to find one that does not have an ER ending as in [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or a T ending as in [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Auden[/name_u] and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] from your list. [name_u]Alden[/name_u], [name_m]Austin[/name_m] (or [name_u]Austen[/name_u]) would be nice too. I also think [name_u]August[/name_u] would work even though it ends in T, because it is ST and not a vowel and T.

Another point is that I like the way most of the two syllable names sound with the short one syllable middle name, [name_m]Scott[/name_m]. It would continue the pattern you’ve already created. All two syllable first names and one syllable second names.

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m]
[name_u]Abbott[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]
and
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]

If you select Ames I’d pick a two syllable middle, for example
Ames [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] or Ames [name_u]Logan[/name_u]

I really like 3 A names together. It’s really cute and there are so many A names out there that are amazing. From your list I love [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] and [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]. I also love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u].

I don’t think you need to go with another A name, and if Ames didn’t sound so great with his brothers, I’d say “not another A name!” But I think Ames [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] is really handsome to me. So Ames gets my vote. But if you’re not going with an A name, you could go with another occupation name so all the brothers share that theme.

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Baird[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Whistler[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]Reeve[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Hayward[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Booker[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]

Go with another A name, but only if you love it as much as [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Auden[/name_u] and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m]. Maybe [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] or [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]? For non-A names I like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. I know a sibset that has two C’s and one M, and another that has two A’s and one L. The matching letters are consecutive in both sets, so kid number three is M in one and L in the other.

If you do decide to use another A, I think [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is a great name

What about [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]?

I do love Ames though!

Three As isn’t cheesy I don’t think. As long as they all can stand alone too.

I could go either way, honestly. I’ve known families who have done two with one initial and one with another (H@nnah, H@iley, and Morg@n is the only one I can think of for now, though), and it seems like no one bats an eye at it. I would let it come down to whichever is my favorite, in this case. If an “A” name is your favorite, then go with it! But if not, it’s surely not the end of the world. I’ve heard a lot of people who say that two doesn’t make a pattern, but three does, to them. But if you’re stopping at three, I’m not sure that really matters!

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Auden[/name_u] with your boys, though, and think [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] would be pretty dreamy! [name_u]August[/name_u] is cool, too, though, and I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] the suggestion of [name_u]Avery[/name_u]–I think [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbott[/name_u], and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] would be so cool! I’m obsessed with [name_u]Avery[/name_u] on a boy, though.

Good luck!

I adore your choices of [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]! Personally, I would go with another A name to match. It’s definitely not cheesy!

[name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Abbott[/name_u], and…
[name_u]Austen[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]

Congratulations! I really like [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m],and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
