Boy name Isar or Izar? Thoughts? Nicknames?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone :slight_smile: What do you think of the name [name_u]Izar[/name_u] or Isar for a boy?

[name_u]Izar[/name_u] means star, which i love, but i also love Isar as it is a river in Munich and hold significance to my family due to the location/history.

Is one of them more masculine? Would you pronounce the same? And what nicknames for a boy would you like for these?

I LOVE Basque names! So Im tempted to vote for [name_u]Izar[/name_u]. However with [name_u]Izar[/name_u] being more commonly used for girls and with Isar having more personal significance I would probably have to go with Isar.

I pronounce them fairly similar. [name_u]Izar[/name_u]: ih-ZSAR (the first syllable is kind of a smoosh between ‘ih & ee’)
Isar- ee-SAR. Slightly sharper sound for the first syllable and a slightly softer sound for the ‘s’

[name_u]Izar[/name_u] and Isar are great! [name_m]Sharp[/name_m], sparkly, and distinctive.

[name_u]Izar[/name_u] looks more masculine to me, but I think it’s used more for girls in Spain right now.

[name_u]Izar[/name_u] = ee-ZAHR and Isar = EE-sahr for me.

For nicknames: [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], Zar / [name_f]Zari[/name_f], [name_u]Ari[/name_u]

I’d assume both were ee-Sar!

I like the look of Isar more, but I think it depends one which meaning/reference is more meaningful to you - the river or the star association.

I like the nickname Sar :slight_smile:
