Boy name that goes with last name Poon?

Hi,

Hope everybody is well.

I’m looking for name ideas. I know that Poon has a bad slang association, so automatically, I can’t use names like William (Willy) or Richard (Dick).
No names starting with P because of the initials.
Also, avoiding 1 syllable names or names that with obvious 1 syllable nicknames, like Michael (Mike).
My partner is leaning towards more normal names and not the out of there spectrum. So no animal, word or too non-traditional names. Also, prefers non-religious (Abraham?)

I saw on another website, that you should avoid names that would result in having the same last letters in both names, like Owen Poon, but not sure if that is a real issue? Opinions?

Also, heard that you should aim for having at least 1 of the letters from the last name in the first name. Seems a bit weird but it’s just something I have no experience with and I don’t want to screw this up.

Thank you very much!

Do you have any examples of names you like but can’t use, or names you like but don’t love, just so we get a feel for your naming style?

Hi there.

I used to nanny for a sweet little fella who would say the word spoon as poon. It was adorable, so that’s what this reminded me of. :grinning:

Anyway, I don’t think that something like Owen Poon would be that bad. Especially if Owen for example was the only name that you loved, you know?

I’ll try to suggest a few names that aren’t too out there or religious that sound okay w/your ln. How about…

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about trying to avoid certain letters or include certain letters to fit with the surname.

Try focusing on the criteria you want in a name first, and you can test any candidates out with your surname later. There are no rules!

You’ve already made a good start:

  1. No P names
  2. No 1 syllable names or names with 1 syllable nicknames
  3. On the traditional side
  4. Not Biblical

Would you like a name with nickname potential? One that’s cool now, or more on the timeless side?

Here are some ideas…
