We are expecting & due in [name]April[/name] so we still don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl. We’ve decided on a name if it’s girl but are still debating on a boys name. My husband really likes the name “[name]Fisher[/name]”, but I’m not so sure. What does everyone here think? [name]Do[/name] you think “[name]Fish[/name]” will become a nickname or do you think people will call him “[name]Fisher[/name]” being that would be his name? Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ![]()
I actually like it. [name]Fisher[/name] is cute. I don’t really think he would end up with a nickname. It’s pretty straight forward.
While I’m not crazy about the name [name]Fisher[/name] unless it’s a family name (even then I would use it in the middle spot), I think there is another nn you could get people to use. [name]Fiske[/name] (pronounced “fisk”) means “a fisherman” and it would be a better option than [name]Fish[/name].
Personally, I’m not keen, because of the whole “smells fishy” thing.
Fine as a mn but perhaps not as a fn.
In theory I like it. It has a nice sound and is easy to pronounce. It is trendy right now to use careers/trades as first names, as well as last names as first names. It fits all those categories that make it acceptable.
In reality he will probably be teased and unfortunately nn [name]Fish[/name] or Fishy. I wouldn’t use it.
I really dislike it. Its too [name]Fisher[/name] [name]Price[/name] for me. Or Fissure. Either way, I would consider some other choices. On a side note, I was in the mall one day and this woman calls out to her 2 sons [name]Fisher[/name] and [name]Price[/name]. NO JOKE!
It also makes me think fissure. But I think few people will think that. I do think that his nickname will be [name]Fish[/name]. But I find that nn cute.
I like the name [name]Fisher[/name]. You could always use [name]Fischer[/name] if you don’t like the fact that [name]Fish[/name] is in the original spelling. Pronounced the same way, just different spelling. I’ve seen it used before and I think its cute.
Sorry, but I think [name]Fisher[/name] might be called “[name]Fisher[/name]-[name]Price[/name]”, “Fisherman”, or “[name]Fish[/name] Boy” by mean kids. Teasing can happen with every name, but this one could be too easy. Another consideration is that [name]Fisher[/name] is a common last name, and depending on your last name sometimes people will mix up the order.
There was a kid named [name]Ryder[/name] [name]Moore[/name] (no kidding!) who lived on my street. Unfortunately, I do remember calling him “Ride-her” and laughing. Wish I could apologize but haven’t seen him in years.
I like the sound, but I think there is a risk of ‘[name]Fish[/name]’ becoming a nn at school. To me it sounds more like a mn. But if you like it, just establish an alternative nn early.
Thank you everyone so much for the feedback! As of right now I think we’re going with [name]Fischer[/name] [name]Gene[/name]!
But things could change! Thanks again~
