Boy names: need help please!

Hello,

I am due in the spring with a baby boy! I need some unbiased opinions on names. I had/have much regret with my older child’s name(would have changed it if husband agreed) and do not want this again.

I really like traditional/classic names.

Here is my list:

[name_m]John[/name_m] - family name
[name_m]William[/name_m]- love this name, family name (a family maiden name, but their are a couple of relatives with this first name that did not want to associate with my son:()
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]- love this name but have some friends who named their son’s this
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] (our last name ends in a “y” so not sure)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
*my husband likes [name_m]Liam[/name_m] but I fell off of the name recently

Any other name suggestions that are similar to my list are welcomed.

Thank you!

I like your list-- they are traditional and classic. [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] sound good with almost any name. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] might not work with your last name.

Some other possibilities:

[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m]

I love that whole list, but to keep from any negative or biased associations, I would go with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. Some other suggestions:
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Connor[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
Some alternative specifically to [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]William[/name_m]:
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Benson[/name_m]
[name_u]Bentley[/name_u]
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilson[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilton[/name_m]

Thank you! i do like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] as well…I will consider!

Thank you! I did not think of alternatives to those names, I do like some of them. I agree…I probably will stay away from negative associations:)

I like classic names too and I think you can’t go wrong with the tried and true! Our son is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] and one family member still managed to find a way to make it negative with saying seb**tard. I just let the hater hate and named him it anyway and we always get compliments on his strong traditional name and nicknames Bash and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! We are expecting baby 2 too and would name him it if we didn’t already know a few Olivers:(

Going with the [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] vibe:
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]

[name_m]William[/name_m] alternatives:
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (we have 3 generations of great men named [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] in my family, so I am biased on liking it)
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholaus[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]

As an alternative to [name_m]John[/name_m] I instantly thought of [name_u]Jude[/name_u], classic but also fresh.
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_u]Lee[/name_u] (although with a last name ending in y could get too rhymey instead of just flowing)

Thank you. I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but do not like [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] for some reason and associate the too :(.
I also liked [name_u]Evan[/name_u] (similar to [name_m]Evander[/name_m]) but also fell off of it.

Congrats to you! I love the name [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]!

You could always name him [name_m]William[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Liam[/name_m] for short!

We had narrowed down the name search! I wanted to create a poll but do not know how. I would like to hear opinions on what sounds the best. Our older child has a more modern sounding name, I guess.

Our last name is two syllables and ends with a “y”.

[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]

Middle name:[name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m], but just don’t think I can use it😔. [name_u]Love[/name_u] any classics but also cannot use [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Steven[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].

Thanks

Your boys list [name_m]Ian[/name_m] nearly identical to mine…I’d suggest [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] too.

Out of your shorter list, I like [name_m]John[/name_m] (includes possible [name_m]Jack[/name_m] nickname), [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] the best.

From your short list, I like
[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

Middle name:[name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]

BTW, I know someone with newborn twins, one is [name_m]John[/name_m] and the other is [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

Thank you. I thought of nickname [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as [name_m]John[/name_m] would be named after a close family member and it would not be confusing.

Thank you. Cute names for twins! i included [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], as our last name is Irish sounding and this name I really liked, although I know it is not actually an Irish name.

Anyone experience giving their child a name, as you really liked it, despite negative family associations with the name?
