Looking for inspiration for boys’ names that work with the surname Key. We are sorted for girls with lots of options we like, but struggling a bit for boys!
It’s a slightly difficult surname because so many names run into it - eg. anything ending with S or N such as James or Finn - nobody wants to get called ‘Jameskey’ or ‘Finnkey’, or even worse something like Gordon which would spell donkey! Things like Jake or Luke just blur into it, and C or K sounds can become a bit clunky eg. Oscar.
My husband is really against anything with an -ee nickname like Freddie or Harry as he strongly dislikes the way it sounds with the surname.
We are into literary, mythological or magical sounding names by preference (for example things like Artemis or Beatrice for a girl), and nothing too close to the top of popularity charts.
Love Gideon, Odin (husband feels it’s too short) and Dacre (even though it has another hard C sound). Thanks, I really like it as a surname too! It has a slightly magical feel itself which I think goes well with the sort of first names we love
I also think [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] Key, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Key, or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Key sound really good together but I know those are probably more common than what you’re going for.
It is I do like these ‘o’ endings with it, we were thinking of Hugo and Orlando which is a favourite but was unfortunately used by a close friend. Kindred is a fabulous name! Also like Josiah but again, someone got there first!
Love Orion and Cosmo. In fact I’ve loved Cosmo for ages, it was initially vetoed by my husband but think he has warmed to it. This is my first time hearing Evander and I’m intrigued…
Dorian is nice! I also love Mathias and other Matthew-adjacent names although we have a Matthew in the family so could get confusing with more than one ‘Matt’!
