Definitely boy!

I argue that [name]Rowan[/name] is truly unisex, as it has a long history as both a male and female name. However, when I hear [name]Rowan[/name], I always picture a boy.

[name]Rowan[/name] is one of the only names I consider truly unisex. It’s a nature name, therefore free game for either side.

Oh and I like itfor a boy OR a girl, not one more than the other, just depends on what you put with it. [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Matthew[/name], for instance.

I don’t really understand the logic behind this. There are many nature names that are only girl, or only boy. I can’t imagine a boy called [name]Heather[/name] or [name]Fern[/name] or [name]Acacia[/name]. Or a girl called [name]Basil[/name].

This is my logic. But to have [name]Rowan[/name] stand alone, I couldn’t tell for certain on paper. So I feel that it is unisex.

I’ve only known male Rowans, some spelt [name]Rowan[/name], some spelt [name]Rohan[/name]. So for me it is a boys name.

It is however gaining popularity as a girls name, so I think the tide may be slowly changing for this name and it wouldn’t be a problem if you wanted to give a daughter this name.

I’m usual really rigid in my stance on not liking boys names on girls. But I don’t see [name]Rowan[/name] as being one of those names. I think it is truly unisex, just seeing the name [name]Rowan[/name] doesn’t make me think boy/girl in the same way [name]Hunter[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] do.
I personally know a teenage girl [name]Rowan[/name] and there’s a female journalist named [name]Rowan[/name] Pelling who’d probably in her 40’s. Then there’s the male actor [name]Rowan[/name] Atkinson and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
So of 4 Rowans I either know or have heard of,it’s 50/50 female/male.
