[name_m]Hi[/name_m] friends - my husband and I will be welcoming our second son this [name_u]March[/name_u], and looking for a male name to honor my late grandmother, [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It can be a first name or a middle name. We’re not set on it starting with a “R”, but we would like it to have either the “ose” sound or the “ro” sound, so that the connection to “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” is somewhat obvious. Any names come to mind? An added bonus would be if it is Irish or connected to Catholicism, but I’ll take any ideas you ladies have - don’t let that stump you. Thank you as always!
How about [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m]? It’s quite a bold name but it has the ‘rose’ sound! [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Penrose[/name_u]?
Rosewood
Ambrose?
Roscoe? I also like the suggestion of [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. If you are alright with just the “ose” sound, maybe [name_m]Moses[/name_m]? [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_m]Orsen[/name_m] also come to mind, although they are quite a stretch.
My first thought was [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rohan[/name_u]. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] has the nature tie-in as well as the [name_f]Ro[/name_f] sound. [name_m]Ross[/name_m]? [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]?
Rowan or [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]! ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u] gets bonus points for also being a plant, and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] for being Irish!) Also [name_m]Ross[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] like @Dechen said.
Rhodes would be a sweet way to honor a [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Means “where the roses grow”
My first though was [name_m]Ross[/name_m], which is my husband’s father’s name. He was named after his mother, [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I also like the suggestion of [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] a lot! That’s a nice way to actually use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in the name without it being too feminine.
I love some of the suggestions already mentioned!
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Ross[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
I will add
[name_u]Amos[/name_u]
Erose/Eros
[name_m]Jose[/name_m]
Markose
[name_f]Melrose[/name_f]
[name_u]Rohan[/name_u]
[name_m]Roman[/name_m]
Ambrose, which has already been suggested, absolutely gets my vote! It’s not related etymologically, but the “rose” part is rather obviously there, and it’s meaning (“immortality”) is rather sweet, especially when honouring a late relative.
To me [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] would fit the bill perfectly. It’s a saint’s name and while it’s not especially common in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], it is used there.
What about [name_u]Rosen[/name_u] or [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]?
How about [name_m]Rogen[/name_m], [name_m]Rogan[/name_m], [name_m]Rohmer[/name_m] or [name_m]Rowe[/name_m]? There’s also:
[name_u]Arrow[/name_u]
[name_m]Aroe[/name_m]
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m]
[name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] (adding a nice nature connection to the shared ro sound)
[name_u]Rowen[/name_u] - this spelling to share the ‘e’ in [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_m]Romere[/name_m]
Rosen
Rhodes
Josiah
Josias
Ronan
Rohan
Joseph
Rhys
Rory
Brogan
Penrose!!! So handsome with the NN [name_u]Penn[/name_u]
Thirding/fourthing/fifthing [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]! It’s perfect — clearly masculine, clearly containing [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and a traditional Catholic name with centuries of history of use in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. There’s also the Irish spelling Ambrós.
Roswell
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
