Boy's List in Disarray

Alright, so my wife and I were agreeing on boys names for a while… and now we aren’t? This is our previous list.
[name]Leo[/name], [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Benno[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Sylvan[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Arlo[/name]
The one thing we agree on is that the middle name should be [name]Wolf[/name]/[name]Wolfgang[/name]/Wolfram as a nod to our daughter’s desire to call the baby Wolfie.
So, two questions:

  1. [name]Do[/name] you have any names you thing we should consider based on our previous list?
    and
  2. Which [name]Wolf[/name] name is the best, or should we decide based on which first name we give the baby?

Our girls list is
[name]Delphine[/name] [name]Juno[/name]
[name]Anais[/name] [name]Juno[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name] [name]Juno[/name]
and our daughter is [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name].

You have great taste - your daughter’s name is lovely - at once classic and modern - and your girls’ list is lovely too (I really like [name]Corinne[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name]). From your boys’ list, I quite like all your names (except maybe [name]Benno[/name]). However, I think that [name]Simon[/name] is the only one that works very well with [name]Wolf[/name] as a mn.

For example…

[name]Sylvan[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] - basically means a wolf from the forest - a little too nature-themed and wolf-theme centric
[name]Arlo[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] - sounds like “Our little wolf” if you say it fast
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] - [name]Lion[/name], [name]Wolf[/name]

And while I love [name]Jude[/name], I don’t like it paired with another 1-syllable name.

However, I think [name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] is a fantastic name (…in general, I prefer the name [name]Wolf[/name] to [name]Wolfgang[/name], but I just love this combination so much for you…[name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] sounds great with [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name]).

So, all that being said, I definitely think that either [name]Simon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] or [name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] are your best options with the list you have.

As for more suggestions:
[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Frederic[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Glen[/name]
[name]Alden[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]

Good luck!

I think [name]Sylvan[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] is really great and works very well with [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gray[/name].

Other possible first names (sorry if I’ve suggested some of these before - we seem to share some similar tastes so I’m pulling from my own lists ;)):

[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Irving[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Chester[/name]

My favorite by far is [name]Simon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]!
What I love about your girls’ list, and [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name], is that your choices are lushly imagistic, yet restrained. It’s not like you’re naming your girls [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]. They’re colorful names, but with a lot of dignity.
[name]Simon[/name] to me is one of the most perfect names. It’s severe, yet playful (no idea how that works.) It’s effortlessly masculine, yet sensitive/intelligent-sounding… [name]Ah[/name] [name]Simon[/name]. I could go on. Plus, it reins in [name]Wolfgang[/name]! And [name]Wolfgang[/name], imo, needs that.
[name]Leo[/name]- DiCaprio. Not as substantial a name to me. Feels like a nn. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] to me feels very “lions and tigers and bears- oh my!”
[name]Benno[/name]- I think of Mussolini. So sorry! That’s probably just me.
[name]Jude[/name]- I like [name]Jude[/name]. I do think of [name]Jude[/name] [name]Law[/name]… ick. But there’s Hey [name]Jude[/name], and plenty of other nice associations, and [name]Jude[/name] is a proper, old name.
[name]Sylvan[/name]- [name]Sylvan[/name] [name]Wolf[/name]… I think [name]Sylvan[/name] sounds too literal and adjective-y with [name]Wolf[/name]. Wolves in the forest…
[name]Arlo[/name]- A beautiful name, but where I live in NYC it’s a really popular hipster kid name, so it’s losing its luster for me.

Ok sorry to be so horribly opinionated. I guess I just love [name]Simon[/name] so much that everything else pales in comparison.
Here are some others that pale next to [name]Simon[/name]:
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Orlando[/name]
Jefrey …with one F…
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Rainer[/name]
[name]Casper[/name]/[name]Kaspar[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Gunther[/name]
[name]Piero[/name]
[name]Ama[/name]ël (umlaut!)

I like [name]Wolf[/name] the best. [name]Wolfgang[/name] belongs to [name]Mozart[/name] and I personally wouldn’t want the word “gang” in my child’s name. Wolfram is too [name]German[/name] and just makes me think of Wolframalpha. I guess I prefer [name]Simon[/name] since it has the best flow with [name]Wolf[/name]. I would suggest [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Wolf[/name].

Since I have a daughter named [name]Miriam[/name], I’ll just tell you my boys’ names and maybe you’ll like them too.

Cowen. That would work well with [name]Wolf[/name], I think.
[name]Eli[/name]. That would work even better with [name]Wolf[/name]. [name]Eli[/name] [name]Wolf[/name]. I like it.

[name]Leo[/name], [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Benno[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Sylvan[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Arlo[/name]

  1. [name]Do[/name] you have any names you thing we should consider based on our previous list?
    and
  2. Which [name]Wolf[/name] name is the best, or should we decide based on which first name we give the baby?

For the more literal first names, I would use Wolfram as a middle. It tames down the overt associations of ‘wolf,’ and avoids [name]Mozart[/name].

I think the -o names too sound better with the longer Wolfram.

[name]Leo[/name] Wolfram
[name]Sylvan[/name] Wolfram
[name]Benno[/name] Wolfram
[name]Arlo[/name] Wolfram

[name]Simon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] & [name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] / Wolfram also sound great.

I think every choice on your list is fantastic. I like the quirky and refreshing [name]Benno[/name] (which as you know means ‘bear’), the elegant and mysterious [name]Sylvan[/name], the more homespun [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Jude[/name], and the hipster [name]Leo[/name] & [name]Arlo[/name].

Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply! [name]Miri[/name] had a dance in a fall festival that we had to get ready for. Thank you for all the kind responses!

@claireelise thank you! I like [name]Asher[/name] and my wife likes [name]Conrad[/name]. [name]Asher[/name] might go on the list but I think it feels a bit weak next to [name]Miriam[/name]? [name]Conrad[/name], on the other hand, stands up so well on its own that I’m worried adding [name]Wolf[/name] may make it too strong/too masculine? [name]Simon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] and [name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] are both awesome names.

@tk. Thank you for your suggestions! [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Amos[/name] were top contenders for [name]Miriam[/name] if she had been a boy, but we talked out names with her aunt and uncle, and now she has cousins named [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Amos[/name].

@emmabobemma Thank you so much! That’s what we go for with our name choices. I feel the same way about [name]Simon[/name], but my wife doesn’t feel as enamored with it as me. I might have to pull the ‘but I’m carrying the baby’ card with her. I really like [name]Julian[/name], [name]Casper[/name], [name]Otto[/name], and [name]Solomon[/name].

@sawdust_and_diamonds [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] is great, but we have a niece named [name]Sally[/name] that stays with us all the time, and [name]Sully[/name] and [name]Sally[/name] may be too close for us.

@nativoyoung I really like [name]Eli[/name], but it’s really popular in my area. :frowning:

@blade thank you for being so involved with our naming process, I really appreciate it! You always make me feel great about our list.

That’s too funny! Well, at least she has well-named cousins - all of my nieces/nephews are tryndees. Lots of Y’s in strange places

[QUOTE=tk.;1651610]That’s too funny! Well, at least she has well-named cousins - all of my nieces/nephews are tryndees. Lots of Y’s in strange places ;)[/]

I feel the same way lol. The names work so well on my nephews! And believe me, [name]Miri[/name] has her fair share of cousins with interestingly spelled names.

I was just thinking about names that mean wolf, and I thought about [name]Ralph[/name], which means wolf counselor. [name]How[/name] do you feel about it? There’s also the variant [name]Raoul[/name]. I think that would be a cool way to get to the nn Wolfie.

I love your girl’s list and I do think [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Corinne[/name] and [name]Anais[/name] go so well together.

[name]Jude[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] would have been amazing, as would [name]Arlo[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name].

[name]New[/name] ideas…
[name]Simeon[/name] [name]Wolf/name
[name]Rhett[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]River[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Lionel[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]North[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Gerard[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Flint[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Lennon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Otto[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Eben[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Orion[/name] [name]Wolf[/name]
[name]Ridley[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Rigby[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Duke[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Damon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Silas[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Jedd[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Linus[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]

Personally I’m liking [name]Arlo[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name].
