Does anyone have any ideas for a boy’s middle name to honor my grandma [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]? Funny thing is she hates her name and has always gone by [name_f]Dot[/name_f], but I’d love to have her name represented. We honored my grandpa [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] with an [name_u]Arlo[/name_u].
That was my first thought, as well! If [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] are related, then I would assume [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] was, as well! [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (gift of God) and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (gift of God/God has given) also have similar meanings, as well.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] have the same root, so I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a natural choice. My only issue is that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] don’t stylistically go together, at least in my opinion. Perhaps another D name?
You’ve got some awesome suggestions so far! I really love the idea of [name_m]Tod[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. Honestly I don’t see why, in the middle name slot, you couldn’t just use [name_f]Dot[/name_f]! Most of the time middle names aren’t used, just initials, and it’s not like there’s anything inherently feminine or unusual for a boy about the name [name_f]Dot[/name_f].
My first thought was [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] so I’ll add that to the list of suggestions. Good luck!
I never would have thought of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], unfortunately it doesn’t go with the first name we have picked out. Her maiden name is Arel (she’s [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian) and my husband and I both really like that as a middle (my husband is Jewish and Arel also has a Jewish meaning). The problem is that she didn’t like her family much and adored her husband’s. We were going to use Arel for our second child’s middle name and she reminded us she didn’t get along with her family. She’s making it hard. Maybe it’s enough that we honored her husband who she loved more than anything.
I really like the suggestion of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and in the middle spot I don’t think it matters that doesn’t work with his brother’s middle name. Maybe choose a name that reminds you of something she loves, such as a nature name or a place.
