My wife and I are expecting and we’re kicking around some names. We both come from Minnesotan farmer families but are now both incredibly urban (we live in the middle of Minneapolis). We want a name that draws from our great grandfathers’ and great great uncle’s names but to keep it somewhat hip, seeing as we’re in the [name_m]Portland[/name_m] of the Midwest. Our list so far is as such:
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_u]Leland[/name_u]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Errol[/name_m]
[name_u]Vernon[/name_u]
I was wondering if anyone could help us out with more suggestions; anything would be helpful. Thanks!
I think I started drooling. Your wife is on board with this list?! I am so very jealous. [name_u]Vernon[/name_u] and [name_m]Errol[/name_m] have been vetoed by my husband and relegated to the “guilty pleasures/future pets” list. [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] are my next favorites of yours. Then [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_u]Leland[/name_u] aren’t my favs but they round out your list well. I’d be tempted to go with [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] myself, but [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_u]Vernon[/name_u] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] sound great too!
Other names in that vein:
[name_m]Burke[/name_m] (oooo [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Burke[/name_m]!)
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m] (ooooh [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_m]Duncan[/name_m]!)
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] (ooo [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] “[name_m]Gil[/name_m]” [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]!)
[name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] (oooo [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]! [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] [name_m]Warren[/name_m] sound equally lovely!)
(Sorry if I got a little too excited over here, but I think this is my favorite name question so far this year. BTW I’m a Seattleite who lives overseas.)
I think [name_u]Elias[/name_u] or [name_m]Eli[/name_m] would work very well. I also like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. Other ideas:
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] or [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] or [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m]
August nn Gus
Gibson nn Gibb
All of these I found from our phone book in SW MN or are names of local farmers we know. Hopefully you find a few to use. [name_m]Hi[/name_m] from a fellow Minnesotan!
Hello neighbor! (I live in S.MPLS as well) I love seeing [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] on your list… [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is one of my all time favorite names - it sounds old fashioned, down to earth, and it travels extremely well internationally.
[name_m]Leon[/name_m] is another great one as well… it’s simple but substantial.
As for other names, I think of…
Wickham
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Alden[/name_u]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
I wanted [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] but the wife vetoed (my original plan was to go Norwegian/Swedish, but she vetoed that, too ;)) BUT! I love [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. Hadn’t thought of that one. We’re in CARAG, so if you’re around that area maybe we’ll bump into you!
