We are expecting our first baby and just found out we are having a boy! I’ve always loved the name [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] for a boy but see it’s becoming more popular as a girls name. Does it sounded dated as a boys name or will he get teased that he has a girls name?
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is still much more common for boys, so no I don’t think he’d get teased for it (which I think is an over-hyped fear anyway). It may be a bit dated since it was so common in the '80s and '90s (but once again not so much that I think it’d be out of place now).
I think [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is a great name and strongly prefer it for a boy!!
I just really love that name, All the guys I know with this name were really cool. I have never known a girl named [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], so I would think you’re safe.

I’ve never been a fan
While I like the name, I do think it would sound quite dated now. Given how popular it was in the 80s and 90s, it could definitely qualify as a “dad name.”
I wouldn’t worry about some people using it as a girl’s name given that it is still vastly more common for boys.
I doubt a boy named [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] would get teased because it’s still far more popular for boys than girls.
I’ve never liked the name [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], but, it is definitely a boys name. I would think a girl [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] would be teased much more than a boy named [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] (the name even means “little king”- boys names on girls is sort of a lowbrow trend that I think will die out soon). I don’t think it’s too dated to use, though I do agree that it could be considered kind of a dad name.
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is much more common for boys than girls, so I think you’d be fine. I really like the name [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], and it’s very much a contender for a future son in order to ‘honour’ my last name.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]. I think it’s so so so sweet for either gender. It’s far more common for boys than for girls, and frankly, a masculine name being used for girls shouldn’t be a reason not to use it for a boy. Kids don’t really notice unless they meet one of the opposite gender first, and even then, I don’t think it’s that much of a big deal. I grew up with a million Sydneys and Peytons of either gender, we never really noticed. I also don’t find it dated, more of a classic thing now. There are a lot of little Ryans, it’s perfectly usable and great.
I love [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] but only on a boy. I really don’t like the boys-names-on-girls trend. It’s totally not dated. Go for it!
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is my brother’s name, so I’d have no hesitation in using it on a son. I don’t think [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is dated, and as others have said, it’s more popular for boys than girls. I associate the [name_u]Rhian[/name_u] spelling as female, as I’ve known several girls and only one boy by that spelling, but I’ve only ever met male Ryans
