I’m pregnant with number 2 due in [name_u]June[/name_u]. My first was a girl and we named her [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] (both my parents names are [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]) our last name is “[name_m]Long[/name_m]”
I already have some girls names picked out but i still struggle with boys
At the moment we have:
[name_m]Coleman[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
or
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and I’m worried [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] is a bit too… different maybe. I’m drawn to [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] but my husband prefers [name_m]Coleman[/name_m]. What do you think?
Names in the past we liked but have taken off the list for various reasons: [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m].
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m]?
I really like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] as a nickname, but I prefer [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] to [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] ([name_m]Coleman[/name_m] is a brand of camping gear and that’s the mental image I’m getting with it–lanterns and camping stoves. I don’t think that renders it unusable, it’s just why I personally am not drawn to it).
If your husband isn’t in agreement with [name_m]Garett[/name_m], maybe [name_u]Everett[/name_u] could be an alternative?
I too thought of camping stoves when I saw [name_m]Coleman[/name_m]. Would you do two middle names? [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] has a nice ring to it. [name_m]Gareth[/name_m] and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] could be alternatives.
I like [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] makes me think of Camping gear or mustard (Colmans is an brand of mustard in the UK). I like pp suggestions of [name_m]Colter[/name_m] and [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] though. I’m guessing you prefer [name_m]George[/name_m] in the middle spot as [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] have a really good flow!
With a surname of ‘long’ I think you need at least 2 syllables with the first name. [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] is cute but I think he would get ‘[name_m]Cole[/name_m]’ pretty quickly and [name_m]Cole[/name_m] [name_m]Long[/name_m] doesn’t flow as well. [name_m]Garett[/name_m] I feel is a better choice as it probably won’t be shortened. I also love the suggestion of [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
I like [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] but are you set on [name_m]George[/name_m] for the middle? The flow isn’t the best for me. I do think [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m] works if you like that. Another alternative to [name_m]Coleman[/name_m] is [name_u]Colby[/name_u] which I like. [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] [name_u]Colby[/name_u] would be nice. I’ll also suggest [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] as a first.
Thanks I agree, I definitely think we need a two syllable first name, hence why [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] are off the table. I do love [name_u]Everett[/name_u] but it’s my husbands uncle who I’d rather not name my child after.
Unfortunately george is my father in laws name and my husband is set on it. It’s either that or [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u], which is most of the men’s middle name on my husbands side, and between the two I prefer george. Thanks for the other suggestions
Thanks everyone for your responses! maybe along the way we will think of something we both like equally as much (hah yea right). I do like Coleman but I really wouldn’t want it to be shortened to cole… I think we really need a two syllable name. Good thing we have 5 months and we are team green so it may not even be a boy!
