Boys names for Hunters?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, I’m new around here and would seriously appreciate some help from the seasoned name hunters.

I’m 34 weeks pregnant with my first baby boy. My husband and I cannot for the life of us agree on a name. He has several criteria that are driving me ballistic. My name is quite unique and growing up with a bunch of people mis-pronouncing and spelling it, I really just want my kiddo to have a normal name. He on the other hand grew up with a super common name for the 90s and wants nothing to do with something he deems “normal.” Throw his criteria on top and it’s enough to create madness.

So- his criteria:
[name_m]Manly[/name_m]
[name_f]One[/name_f], maximum two syllables- but if it’s two it’d better be a short spelling.
Either a hunting or outdoors meaning (this is where I start to get hung up.)
Cannot begin with R or end in son- because of our last name.
Preferably a Scottish or Canadian origin or significance.

Names he’s thrown out: [name_u]Max/name_u, [name_u]Logan[/name_u] (as in Mt. [name_u]Logan[/name_u]), [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] (to obvious), [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Gage[/name_m], [name_m]Gunner[/name_m], [name_m]Brock[/name_m].

Right now he’s hung up on [name_u]Chase[/name_u], which I don’t hate- but am having a hard time envisioning calling my little boy.

Help me please!! The hospital won’t let us leave without a signed birth registration WITH A NAME. I don’t want to be sitting in the hospital lobby unable to be discharged because we can’t name him!

I think [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], and [name_m]Brock[/name_m] are really cute!
What about:
[name_m]Cannon[/name_m]
[name_m]Fielding[/name_m]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
Browning (gun brand)
[name_m]Remington[/name_m] could be called [name_u]Remi[/name_u] (gun brand, even though you said no R names)
[name_u]River[/name_u] (another R name)
[name_u]Oak[/name_u] or [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]

The hospital shouldn’t be pressuring you in regard to naming your child. [name_f]Every[/name_f] Canadian province gives parents some time before they have to register a baby’s birth. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t stand for their heavy handed treatment. When I think of the most Canadian name I know that would be: [name_u]Lorne[/name_u].

I think they’re cute too! But he won’t even consider them. It’s driving me batty. I want this kid to have a name!

I will suggest your suggestions tonight and see how far I get.

Our hospital made it very clear during the tour: your birth registration has to be filled out and filed before they’ll let us leave. If we have an uncomplicated birth then we’ll only be there 24 hours after he’s born.

I have a hard time believing that a hospital has the authority to hold you and your child against your will without any medical reason. Anyway, I like [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. [name_m]Ridge[/name_m], [name_u]Canyon[/name_u], and [name_u]River[/name_u] also came to mind.

Suggestions: by the way, I know nothing about hunting/manly sports/rough names so please forgive a stupid sounding suggestion!!

Personally I’d pick [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. I also like [name_m]Brock[/name_m] and [name_u]Chase[/name_u]. A couple of other possibilities: [name_m]Caine[/name_m], which apparently means “spear hunter”; [name_m]Holt[/name_m] (this also gets points for a Canadian connection… [name_m]Holt[/name_m] Renfrew!)

For a Canuck name, I’d suggest checking out the names of former Prime Ministers… A lot of Bays, lakes, and rivers with interesting names to consider… [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], etc. [name_u]Lorne[/name_u] was also a great suggestion.

Champlain (you could call him [name_m]Champ[/name_m])

[name_u]Dusty[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]

Sorry for repeats.

What about [name_m]Grover[/name_m]? It’s different, but a known name. It has an outdoorsy meaning and meets his criteria.

[name_m]Huntley[/name_m]
[name_m]Shooter[/name_m]
[name_m]Chasen[/name_m] (means hunter)
[name_m]Theron[/name_m] (means hunter)

I’ve not read through all the suggestions, so I may repeat some. Being in a big hunting family myself, I had to bite on this one.

[name_m]Chester[/name_m] (shortened from Winchester)
Calib (spin off from caliber…different spelling from [name_m]Caleb[/name_m])
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (too plain for your hubby likely but you can remind him of [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] Solocam
[name_m]Davy[/name_m] (as in [name_m]Davy[/name_m] [name_m]Crockett[/name_m])
[name_m]Boone[/name_m] (as in [name_m]Boone[/name_m] & [name_m]Crockett[/name_m])
[name_m]Jase[/name_m] (maybe you’ll like this & so will he since he likes [name_u]Chase[/name_u])
[name_m]Colt[/name_m]
[name_u]Reed[/name_u] (hey that is deer backwards!)

OR maybe compromise on one of you picking the first name & the other picking the middle name?

Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!! No hits yet. I’m honestly starting to think he just cannot visualize this baby AT ALL and can’t settle on a name because of it.

My husband and I are having a difficult time agreeing on a name for our 4th baby boy. We still have some time (due in jan) but my suggestion is narrow it down to two names, one on yours and one from his list and after the baby is born it maybe easier to picture the right name. That’s my plan anyway

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] ([name_m]German[/name_m] for “hunter”)
[name_u]Teal[/name_u] (a type of duck)
[name_m]Clay[/name_m] (like, shooting at clay pigeons?)

Some more suggestions:

[name_m]Smith[/name_m]
Wesson
[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]

[name_m]Bond[/name_m]
[name_m]Gage[/name_m]
[name_m]Mark[/name_m]
Prime
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
