Brannock?

I found this name, spelled Brannoc, on a list I made years ago from The [name_m]Oxford[/name_m] Dictionary of Saints. I hadn’t thought of it in a long while, and I fell hard, especially since I’ve had [name_u]Bran[/name_u] on my list forever but can’t see myself using it because of bran muffins and Raisin [name_u]Bran[/name_u] :sob: Also, our middle name for another son is [name_u]John[/name_u], and [name_u]Bran[/name_u] [name_u]John[/name_u] is kind of awful :smile:

Any bad associations? Which spelling do you like best? I’ve seen Brannoc (English/Welsh), Brannock (ditto), Branoc (Breton?), and [name_m]Branok[/name_m] (Cornish.)

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like Brannock with siblings [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], and Deliverance?

I also like the Brannoc spelling and I think it works with your kids! And I also love [name_u]Bran[/name_u] though I understand your concerns with it :joy: Brannoc ‘Bran’ is great.

The Brannock spelling reminds me of hammocks and [name_m]Branok[/name_m] looks a little sci-fi esque to me. I think Brannoc is the perfect balance!

I agree with this tenfold! It’s absolutely lovely. And wouldn’t Bran be just the sweetest nickname?

I like the Brannoc spelling! I don’t know if you like [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but if you do there’s always [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Bramble[/name_m].

I deviate from the above comments and actually think t he Brannock spelling is more well-rounded and is better as a whole.

I think that Brannock fits super well with this sibset actually! It’s different enough but gives the same vibes.

I think Brannoc is my favorite! I was a bit torn between Brannock and Brannoc, mostly thinking of ease of spelling.

@may.rose I do like [name_m]Bram[/name_m]! But [name_u]Bran[/name_u] > [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and Brannoc > [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m]. [name_m]Bramble[/name_m] is cute, but I’d only consider it in the middle, I think.

It makes me think of bannocks, but that is not at all a negative association. They are tasty. I really like the Brannock. It sounds like the name of a Romantic poet

I thought of that too! Between “bannock” and “bran,” he can be our little oatcake :joy:

I love Brannoc! It seems unique and rugged but accessible, especially beginning with the warm “Bran” Brannoc the spelling I prefer. Brannoc [name_u]John[/name_u] is really cool!

I can get on board with any spelling variations but Brannock is my favourite (I have a [name_u]Beck[/name_u], I like the K!) I think it’s a very distinctive and charming name. It’s close soundwise to [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] (in my accent), but otherwise I think it gels well with the siblings. Siblings do end up with name similarities, especially in bigger families. We like what we like!

I like Brannoc better, it feels a bit softer and more mystical. I think it fits with your older kids!
