Brewer?

I heard this name the other day and I really, really like it! I’m guessing most people probably won’t like it, but I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are? Is there a spelling that you think would be better for it? Thanks!

I can’t really take that name seriously, but I’m not really a fan of occupational names ([name]Taylor[/name], [name]Miller[/name], [name]Thatcher[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name]… it’s like a medieval village over here).

lol eskay. I don’t like it. I don’t like many occupational names, but [name]Brewer[/name] just makes me think of beer.

I don’t really like occupational names, and this one in particular has strong connections with an occupation that may cause teasing/be a burden for a child. It also just reminds me of brewer’s yeast.

I like the sound of it. It reminds me of a colonial surnamish type, and I think it would be pretty cool. [name]Rue[/name]/Roo/Reu would be a cool nn for it, too. However, I don’t think I could get past the alcohol association… it’s just not for me! If it wasn’t so strongly associated to alcohol, I would probably love it. I’m a huge fan of surnamey choices, and some occupation names (like [name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Booker[/name], etc.).

Good luck!

My in-laws have a neighbor named [name]Brewer[/name]. He is about 12 and the sweetest, spunkiest kid. I like the name because of that association. It is definitely different, and unique, and he will never have to go by a last initial in school! It does remind me of beer, but is that really a bad thing?

While I usually like occupation names ([name]Thatcher[/name], [name]Archer[/name], etc), [name]Brewer[/name] just makes me think of beer only.

This. The beer association is just way too strong.

I get the beer impression right away, but I also thought of a friend I had growing up whose last name was [name]Brewer[/name]…and I’ve known one or two other [name]Brewer[/name]'s since then, so if you’re in a place surnames as first names are prevalent, that may help a bit…

Thanks everyone for the opinions! Yes I’m worried a bit about the beer connection, but we don’t drink so I don’t know if it would be a huge issue then, like people won’t think we picked that name just because of the beer connection. I don’t know, I guess it just doesn’t really bother me, but I also want to think about a son having this name also.

I think it could be a liability for him down the road. So many people have issues with alcohol - even if they are not your son’s issues, it could pose a problem for him.

I love it. I think it’s a masculine, independent name.

[name]Brewer[/name] is cool in theory, but I agree with the concerns about the beer connection. It could work as a middle name, but even then I’d only recommend it if it’s a family surname.

I like it better for a girl.
