What are everyone’s opinions on the name [name]Brewer[/name]? I heard it on a little boy a few years ago and it’s been on and off my list ever since then. Any middle names that you like with it? Thanks!
I don’t like it, sorry. It just doesn’t sound like first name material to me, the only thing that comes to mind is someone who brews beer and that’s just not an association I’d want my child’s name to have.
I don’t think it makes an appropriate name because of its association with beer making. Would be an unfortunate name for somebody if they turned out to be an alcoholic. There must be similar sounding names that would be more appropriate. [name]Bowen[/name] or [name]Brenner[/name] maybe?
I have an old friend who’s surname is [name]Brewer[/name]. If it was a family name, I can definitely see using it (but that’s just my personal rule…if you’d use any surname regardless, than why not?)
If it has meaning to your family (i.e. your maiden surname, a family surname, etc.), I think it could work.
I like [name]Brewer[/name]. I think it may be a bit unusable, but it has a cool sound and I love its surnamey vibe. I also love [name]Brewster[/name], though, too. I think some would be against it because it’s so surnamey, but I think it’s really cool. Not sure I’d be gutsy enough to use it.
Really dislike it and my first thought was beer.
Echoing the sentiments that it immediately gives me the image of a brewery, to the point that unless it has a personal connection (family name, etc…) everyone might think (and raise eyebrows at the fact) you named your kid after beer.
My first thought was brewery and that is fairly off-putting. I’m not against it for the surname-y-ness, but rather for the fact that most surnames come from someone’s occupation: Carpenter, [name]Miller[/name], [name]Fisher[/name], etc. So you’re literally naming your child “brewer of beer” which is a questionable association. I mean if your family owns the local brewery and it’s been in business for generations and you want to bestow the family history, I can sort of see it…but even then, there are so many names out there without alcoholic connotations that are far more suitable for a child.
First thing that came to mine was ‘I hope he likes beer’. I mean, I love beer, but I wouldn’t name my child something that is so strongly associated with it. I wouldn’t go with Vintner, either.
Same as everyone else - my first thought was beer! Would not use!
Only if it’s a family name.
It sounds more like a surname to me. It’s not horrible, but I certainly can’t say that I ‘like’ it as a first name. Sorry!
[name]Brewer[/name] is a town about an hour from where we like, and it’s not a very nice place. That’s what I think of first, then, like others have said, beer. I don’t hate it, but I would not be overly impressed meaning a child named [name]Brewer[/name].
Too related to beer [name]IMO[/name]… [name]Foster[/name]? [name]Archer[/name]? [name]Fletcher[/name]?
