I am currently liking [name]Dagny[/name] and [name]Briar[/name]. What are your thoughts on these unusual names?
I’ve never heard of [name]Dagny[/name]. But I do like [name]Briar[/name]! I don’t consider an unusual name since I know quite a few [name]Briar[/name]'s.
I’m a fan of [name]Dagny[/name], but I’m not sure how usable it is. [name]Briar[/name] is a little too thorny for me.
I like [name]Dagny[/name]. [name]Briar[/name] sounds nice but I can’t get past the thorns/prickly association.
I love [name]Briar[/name]. I really, really don’t like [name]Dagny[/name], especially for a girl.
[name]Love[/name] them both, especially as a sibset.
I like [name]Briar[/name] just fine for a boy or girl. [name]Dagny[/name] not so much. Had a friend name her daughter [name]Darby[/name], I thought it kind of strange and I put [name]Dagny[/name] with it. Sorry.
I really like [name]Dagny[/name] (and [name]Signy[/name]!) - I think they are really pretty, I always love that “nee” sound at the end of girls names. I also really love the meaning of [name]Dagny[/name].
I am on the fence about [name]Briar[/name]. It feels very masculine to me, but as a nature word - it can be used for either gender. [name]Do[/name] you care for [name]Bryony[/name] / [name]Briony[/name]?
I like [name]Dagny[/name], or [name]Dagmar[/name], but definitely not [name]Briar[/name]. The popularity of [name]Briar[/name] for girls continues to amaze me, and I consider myself a difficult person to amaze. [name]Dagny[/name] as that cool Nordic beauty, but briars are pestilential thorny weeds.
Very fitting, fun, fresh sister names that are definitely not for everyone…Once in a while, someone will come along and get it and gush.
I know a little [name]Dagny[/name] who is beautiful and whom the name fits perfectly. [name]Briar[/name] is nice too but I prefer [name]Briony[/name]. It is similar enough to mention!
I’m not a fan of [name]Dagny[/name]. [name]Briar[/name] is interesting. When we lived in Australia, I found out the wool around the sheep’s bottom was called the dag, and is often shaved away to keep it from matting and attracting flies. “[name]Dag[/name]”, as a result, is an insulting thing to call someone, and I’m afraid [name]Dagny[/name] reminds me of that.
Neither are my style but of the two I’d pick [name]Briar[/name]. [name]Dagny[/name] seems like a cartoon character I’ve heard of but I can’t pin point it.
I really like both of these names, although I like [name]Briony[/name] (or [name]Bryony[/name]) more than [name]Briar[/name]. I know some people find the [name]DAG[/name] sound in [name]Dagny[/name] and [name]Dagmar[/name] a bit harsh-sounding, but I like it. There is also [name]Signy[/name] (or [name]Signe[/name]) which is lovely.
I like [name]Dagny[/name], but don’t think I’d be brave enough to actually use it. But I’d love to meet a little [name]Dagny[/name].
I know of a 3 year old boy named [name]Dagney[/name], but I think I prefer [name]Dagny[/name] for a girl, I know the most wonderful [name]Dagmar[/name], and I think it would be a sweet way for her family to honour her.
As for [name]Briar[/name], I’m on the fence. It’s just okay, the meaning isn’t great and I don’t like the sound too much either. I like the idea of the fairy tale connection though.
[name]Blade[/name] saved me some typing here.
Like [name]Briar[/name] more for a boy than a girl and like ssterikoff the ‘dag’ in [name]Dagny[/name] makes me think of sheep, and not in a good way.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure if [name]Dagny[/name] was a boy or girl name until I looked it up! While I like the meaning of it (‘new day’) a lot, I don’t care so much for the name itself. [name]Briar[/name], however, I really like!!
hmmm-some good things to think about here. I didn’t know about the sheep connection-that has turned me off the name a bit. Honestly, I was liking [name]Dagny[/name] more than [name]Briar[/name] at first. I like the meaning of the name, the fact that it is Scandanavian and the association with [name]Atlas[/name] Shrugged. Ultimately, probably won’t be a name I use!
