Does this work at all or is it too far of a stretch? Due next Friday and still haven’t decided on a full name for [name_f]Betty[/name_f] if baby is a girl. Betony is in the lead but I want to make sure I explore all options.
Thanks!

Yes it could work.
It is not the most natural nickname but Bridget has [name_f]Bet[/name_f] so it is in there.
What about [name_f]Elsbet[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]?
I suppose it works, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (or some variation of it) would be more traditional and intuitive.
For you, I would say stick with Betony, or maybe consider [name_f]Betty[/name_f] as a stand-alone name? I usually wouldn’t recommend that as many nicknames don’t age well, but I think [name_f]Betty[/name_f] works.
We have a niece named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so that’s out or anything too similar sounding. The only names that DH hasn’t vetoed out of the many I’ve suggested are Betony and [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], but I think he might like [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] would be my top picks but he just doesn’t like them.
I feel the need to weigh in when anyone is mulling over [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] because it’s my name. Kudos for picking the most intuitive spelling, however you are dooming your child to a lifetime of mispellings because even with the most obvious, no one ever gets it right.
And I would [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] to be known as [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. I tried to have [name_f]Brie[/name_f] as a nn. Nothing works. My experience is, people insist on shortening the name, so unless you call her solely [name_f]Betty[/name_f], she will be “[name_m]Bridge[/name_m]”. Blech.
Bottom line, as a 34 year old veteran [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] --it’s a better name in theory than in practice.
