Hey all! I really like the idea of calling a future son Briggs. It’s the name of the street my childhood church was on. As a minister, it means a lot to me. What do you think? I like the idea of Briggs being a nickname for a longer name. I’ve been looking at names for a long time, but the only idea I have is Bridger, which I think is a stretch. I’ve also been suggested Brigham, but again with the minister thing, I just can’t commit. Do you have any ideas?
I like [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] on it’s own. It sounds kind of rough around the edges, but in a cool way not in a bad way. I think if the meaning behind it is special to you, and you love the name you should use it.
The only other suggestion I have (which is also a stretch) is [name_u]Brighton[/name_u]. It doesn’t make the Br-ig sound but I could see it working, then again I’m in the camp of nicknames not having to be literal.
I love this name. I have a friend that is pondering it right now. (It is her FIL’s middle name). [name_m]Brigham[/name_m] would really make it more of a religious name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_m]Brigham[/name_m] [name_m]Young[/name_m]…
I would forgo [name_m]Brigham[/name_m], due to the strong association.
[name_m]Briggs[/name_m] is interesting. I’m feeling neutral on it, but feel like it could stand on its own and fits into the surname-as-firt names and “s” ending name trends. The only other name that’s obvious to me would [name_u]Brighton[/name_u]. [name_m]Bridger[/name_m] sounds so strange to me. Like someone that builds bridges.
Other ideas if you’re willing to stretch a bit: A name that begins with “Br” paired with a middle name that starts with G: [name_m]Brian[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m]? [name_m]Broderick[/name_m] [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]? [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Gray[/name_u] with a little more rearranging? [name_m]Breckin[/name_m] [name_m]Gaius[/name_m]?
Thanks for the feedback! I love the name [name_u]Brighton[/name_u], unfortunately it’s on my list as name already, as it honors my maiden name.
I never really intended to use [name_m]Brigham[/name_m], it’s just as close as I could get to [name_m]Briggs[/name_m]. I like the suggestion of [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] as a stand alone. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] will be fine by itself?
I love the name [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] and prefer it on its own. I don’t see the point of naming him something else and calling him [name_m]Briggs[/name_m], when [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] is a perfect stand alone name. It is an uncommon, but easily recognizable, strong, masculine, and handsome name. Good choice!
I like [name_m]Briggs[/name_m]. It’s familiar but not weird and he would have a really cool story behind it. I too want to name a future child the name of a street meaningful to me, so I totally support it. It reminds me of the Lethal Weapons movies where [name_u]Mel[/name_u] [name_m]Gibson[/name_m] is called Riggs (his character’s last name) and [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], which is getting some love lately for boys. I think [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] is fine by itself!
