Lately, I’ve really, really loved the name [name]Brighton[/name]. But for a boy, and not a girl, which seems to be the normal way to go with that name. It is unisex, but it seems to me that most people think of it as just a girls name. So I’m curious, what do you think of it as a boys name? [name]Do[/name] you think automatically of a girl when you hear it, or do you actually think of a boy?
I think it works fine for a boy. It feels very unisex to me, not “unisex-but-really-only-girls-use-it”. I like the nickname [name]Bright[/name].
I don’t think automatically girl when I hear it, I think of The [name]Nanny[/name] which had a boy named [name]Brighton[/name] on it. I like [name]Brighton[/name] on either, but more so on a boy.
Thanks, I’m glad others do think of it as a boys name as well. And I like the nickname [name]Bright[/name] as well, I think it’s really cute.
I do automatically thing of a girl and do prefer it on a girl, BUT if I’m told of a little boy named [name]Brighton[/name] I wouldn’t question it.
I think of the seaside town in [name]England[/name]. But if you’re not planning on going there, then [name]Brighton[/name] is a great name-- and the nn [name]Bright[/name] is a winner. There’s nothing feminine about it to me.
I think of [name]Brighton[/name], the town. Sounds daft on a person to me.
I’ve never been to [name]Brighton[/name], so I think of [name]Graham[/name] [name]Greene[/name]'s novel [name]Brighton[/name] [name]Rock[/name]. It’s dark and kind of gloomy (unlike the actual own, I’m sure). I think as a name, I would assume that it’s male. It doesn’t sound feminine to me.
I just think of the place in [name]England[/name], so I’m not a fan. Sorry.
I also thought of the town in the UK, [name]Neal[/name] [name]Simon[/name]'s seminal work “[name]Brighton[/name] [name]Beach[/name] Memoirs”, and the kid on “The [name]Nanny[/name]”. The only association I’d be worried about is the latter, since the character was supposed to represent a stereotype of a kid from a wealthy family (hence the stereotype of using surnames as first names). As a name, it does sound good.
I thought of The [name]Nanny[/name] too, but I always quite enjoyed the [name]Brighton[/name] character. I think it is a bit pretentious though, for me at least. I don’t like my family could pull it off. I would [name]LOVE[/name] to meet a little boy named [name]Brighton[/name] though
most definitely.
I met a little boy named [name]Brighton[/name] a few weeks ago. Super cute! He definitely wore his name well. I think that works well for a boy.
I think of it as a city in [name]Colorado[/name] first. That’s because I live in [name]Colorado[/name], though. If I heard it as a name, I’d guess boy first.
