[name]Love[/name] this name and will be using it for our daughter due in a couple of weeks, but can’t decide on the spelling. What are everyone’s thoughts?
[name]Bridget[/name]. I’ve also seen it spelled [name]Brigitte[/name] but I prefer [name]Bridget[/name]
My vote is [name]Bridget[/name]. It’s slightly more familiar, and therefore more accessible – yet still not overly popular. I worry that [name]Brigid[/name] looks too close to “frigid.” Further, I people will be less confident in the pronunciation when they see [name]Brigid[/name].
I love [name]Brigid[/name] it just feels more authentic and Irish to me.
If you’re in the U.S., then [name]Bridget[/name]. I love this name, by the way!
Another vote for [name]Bridget[/name].
All the things I was going to say.
Definitely [name]Bridget[/name]. It’s a lovely name but [name]Brigid[/name] to me even sounds a little different to [name]Bridget[/name] even though it’s the same name, basically.
[name]Bridget[/name] definitely!
I love this name and considered it for my own daughter! Great choice
I, too, found [name]Brigid[/name] very appealing, but ultimately decided we should use the [name]Bridget[/name] spelling for the reasons above. I found that people said “[name]Brigid[/name]” kind of funny, almost as if they are trying to sound it out, whereas they said “[name]Bridget[/name]” much more naturally. I also like the look of [name]Bridget[/name] more on paper.
I agree that [name]Brigid[/name] sounds too much like frigid.
I prefer [name]Brigid[/name]
I prefer [name]Brigid[/name], but either way it’s a great choice!
I prefer [name]Bridget[/name], but overall prefer [name]Brigitta[/name] I also say [name]Brigid[/name] like Frigid.
As a [name]Bridget[/name] myself I would implore upon you to pick the most standard spelling as everyone will spell it wrong anyway so the simpler the better: [name]Bridget[/name].
My main childhood problems with the name were the teasing because of the rhyming, [name]Bridget[/name] the Midget till around grade six and then Frigid [name]Bridget[/name] as a teen. (I was totally oblivious to the meaning when this one started, it was just a rhyming thing I guess) Therefore the “[name]Bridget[/name]” spelling will likely attract less mocking as teen than the [name]Brigid[/name] spelling.
In hindsight, I wish I would have set out my preferred nickname, [name]Brie[/name], right away. I have had a lifetime of people just unilaterally shortening it to “[name]Bridge[/name]” which I dislike, but people do it every day. If I’d set out my preference, I may not have had so many problems with that.
Good luck and congratulations & good call not adding all the extra Ts and Es!
I prefer [name]Brigitte[/name], but [name]Bridget[/name] is great too. [name]Brigid[/name] seems lacking.
I vote for [name]Bridget[/name], too Cute name, I like it!
This sums up my thoughts, but I’ll add that [name]Bridget[/name] is one of my very favorite names. I love it!
I would go with [name]Bridget[/name] as well. Fantastic choices!
I’m [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f], my preference is the opposite to you. I like the nickname [name_m]Bridge[/name_m], not many people call me it but if they do, I don’t mind it. I love having a long name, I’m the only one in my family to have a long name. ‘Bridget’ spelling to be is too plain for me, I prefer the longer version for some reason (maybe I’m showing favouritism )
Sure, I have to spell it out when I’m am giving my information but I don’t mind. But I do have to agree with you about the name calling of ‘Bridgette the Midget’ except my own brothers would constantly call me that, but ironically I’m not short, I’m 5’11 and I was always a taller girl against my peers.
