Brigitte

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce this name? I have a pronunciation in mind, but I wanted to see people’s knee jerk reaction before I post what I’m looking for.

Thank you in advance!

bree-ZHEET, like [name]Brigitte[/name] [name]Bardot[/name].

I second this.

Same here

Yup. But I prefer [name]Bridget[/name].

Same as above - Brih-zheet…

A friend of mine just had a little girl named [name]Anna[/name] [name]Brigitta[/name]. Her name is pronounced brig-EE-tuh. It’s honoring her grandmother. They are Finnish so it honors their heritage. I like [name]Brigitta[/name] better than [name]Brigitte[/name]. I’d only use it as a middle though.

This is the pronunciation I like. I love how in [name]German[/name] the e is pronounced as an “uh”, and would love to keep that. I think the [name]Brigitte[/name] spelling looks nicer, but I think it’s destined to be pronounced the French way.

I’d say ‘brig-eet-a’ but yeah, I guess it could be said the French way too.

I pronounce it differently because the Danish pronunciation is different, we pronounce it “bri-gitt-teh” (if that makes any sense). However, if I was to pronounce it in English, I would pronounce it the French way - as Miss [name]Bardot[/name] do.

Brig-EET-uh, because that was one of the little girls’ names in The Sound of [name]Music[/name]

I was going to say Brig (rhymes with fig), -ette (rhymes with get) but I hink I’m wrong and everyone else is right

[name]Don[/name]'t do it. This is my middle name down to the spelling and all. My whole life I have hated the name. It’s of a Germanic origin in my case and there are a few ways to spell it. Anytime I have to take out my birth certificate and people stumble over it it makes me embarrassed and just a little ticker at my mom for picking it.

Funny thing is people have no trouble with [name]Danae[/name], a name that some argue is the more difficult of the two.

This is where I first heard the name, and honestly she’s my favorite of the von Trappe children, so the name has good associations with me.

Yep! Me too

This is my best friend’s name (we live in the US). She pronounces it like the [name]Bridget[/name] (“bridge-ett”) spelling but often gets all kinds of mispronunciations. She says she’d have preferred “[name]Bridget[/name]” if her parents were going to pronounce it like that anyway.
