Brixton?

I like the name Brixton quite a bit. Is this too “off-beat”? I wouldn’t mind giving my kid a cool name, but I don’t want it to sound too trendy or “rock 'n roll”. We have a very traditional last name (one syllable), so it rings nicely. I’ve heard the name [name]Braxton[/name] too, I like that as well.

Suggestions? Opinions? Comments?

I’m sorry to say that I strongly dislike [name]Braxton[/name]; it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. I’ve never heard Brixton, but I really don’t care for it either, sorry. I’m afraid both do sound quite trendy to me. But it’s just a case of different tastes and styles; there’s nothing inherently wrong with these names, I just really don’t like them. I know others can suggest some really nice alternatives (this is not my forte) if you’d like to look into some other options!

Brixton is unusual, but [name]Braxton[/name] is shooting up the charts. Brixton thus isn’t too “off-beat”, but certainly fits the trend.

I usually like to go by more than this, but I really don’t like the sound of Brixton, because of the “brick”.

Brixton is a rather rough area of [name]London[/name] - infamously so. I would advise against using it as a name, I’m afraid.

A friend of mine had a baby (about 2 years ago) and named him Broxton. It’s different and probably not everyone’s taste (I don’t really care for it). But it’s got a certain kind of trendiness about it.

Brixton is cute, different from what you hear everyday!! If you want something similar you could do [name]Bronson[/name]!

[name]Hi[/name], I wouldn’t recommend naming your child, Brixton. Brixton is a poor, very tough, crime-ridden neighborhood in [name]London[/name], [name]England[/name] that had race riots years ago. Some other suggestions might be [name]Brighton[/name] (a beautiful seaside town on the English [name]Channel[/name]), [name]Brett[/name] (name from the Middle Ages for a [name]Breton[/name] of northern [name]France[/name]), [name]Brice[/name] (a saint’s name), [name]Brogan[/name] (an Irish surname) or [name]Brynmor[/name] (a Welsh name). Good luck!

I think [name]Bronson[/name], [name]Brody[/name] or [name]Broderick[/name] is a better selection than Brixton. [name]Braxton[/name], reminds me of [name]Toni[/name] [name]Braxton[/name] or the [name]Braxton[/name] Hicks Contractions!

Brixton just sounds made-up to me”sorry. [name]Braxton[/name] makes me think of [name]Toni[/name] [name]Braxton[/name], so I picture a female with that one. I have the least negative reaction to Broxton. None of these names are my taste, but I’m not the one naming your baby. Go with whatever you like and whatever you think your baby will like answering to for the next 90+ years.

~[name]Frances[/name]

its a no go for me…

I can’t be the only one who finds the association to “[name]Braxton[/name]-Hicks” contractions inescapable…not a great connotation, imo.

Brixton
Sorry, I too dislike the name, because it sounds made-up, as well as clunky/chunky and harsh. I feel the same about the popular [name]Braxton[/name], and [name]Bronx[/name] as well. It’s also the name of a rough neighborhood, which isn’t a very good association.

Recapping and adding suggestions–

[name]Brighton[/name]
[name]Brett[/name]/[name]Brent[/name]
[name]Brice[/name]/[name]Bryce[/name]
Bryston*
[name]Brogan[/name]
[name]Brynmor[/name]
[name]Bronson[/name]*
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Broderick[/name]
[name]Breccan[/name]*

I always say to go with what you love because everyone is going to have a different opinion about the name you choose…can’t please everyone! I also ask myself if I’d like being called by that name and its natural nicknames.

“[name]Brick[/name]” comes to me as the usual nickname choice, and it could be good as in “Solid, sturdy, dependable,” or bad as in “big and dumb.”

Best of luck, picking a name is really tough! I don’t ask for family input, I go to nameberries to get an idea of how a name is perceived by a broad range of people, so you’ve come to the right place. Btw, in my town Brixton would probably be received well by most people.

Being from [name]England[/name], I’d ditto what has been said about Brixton. It’s a not great area in South [name]East[/name] [name]London[/name] (some people love it!) but is known for the riots years ago.
Personally, I would find something else - unless of course you think he’ll never ever visit [name]England[/name] or meet an English person!!

Hey I’m 25 maybe these posters are older and don’t like that style but I love the name Brixton. In fact the guy from green day has a baby boy named Brixton. I like it more for a girl but either way, very cool. Go with what you like. There’s always gonna be people who love or hate the name you choose.

[name]Don[/name]'t care for Brixton, seems contrived.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Brooks[/name] or [name]Bryson[/name]?

I really don’t care for this name… seems like someone may be trying too hard to be offbeat. I get the appeal on the sound but think there are better choices - even [name]Brooks[/name] if you are looking to go with nn Brix. I think I even like Brix over Brixton… a ton of bricks?

I like Brixton. I have also met a baby Brixon recently. Be prepared for the nn Brix if you go with either. Another favorite- Breslin.

I agree with what other people have said, when I think of Brixton, it is of the place you what to avoid when you visit [name]London[/name] (for fear of being mugged or worse).

Hey! I’m only 28, I’m not old! And I agree with everyone Brixton sounds very made up, in the trying-to-hard-to-be-trend-but-different way… Not a fan at all. And [name]Braxton[/name] sounds very southern, plus of course [name]Braxton[/name] Hicks Contractions…

Am I the only one who noticed this post is from over a year ago? lol
