We’ve been struggling to come up with a boy name for our baby - my husband likes classic, masculine names (Adam, George) and I like softer, nature-y feeling names (Robin, [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], Fletcher)…but we MAY have finally found one we both like - [name_m]Brodie[/name_m]. It seems sweet but boyish at the same time and I love hearing my husband call my bump Brodie😊.
The only thing that I’m a bit unsure about is the meaning - I really wanted a name with a special / positive meaning. Nobody’s quite sure where [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] came from but one likely possibility is that it was a word meaning ‘miry’ or ‘muddy ditch’ . However I do like that it has a long history (nameberry doesn’t give much of the detail on origins & possible meanings)
Anyway I would love to hear what vibes this name give you, what it makes you think of, how you imagine a boy called [name_m]Brodie[/name_m], to help me love the name! Thanks!
I grew up knowing two Brodies who both happened to be very likeable, friendly, good-looking, musical, physical and sporty (esp surfing & snowboarding) so they’re the qualities I associate with the name. I like it! It’s a great choice despite muddy ditch!
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] is cool and handsome. I think your “sweet but boyish” is a great description. I agree with the previous poster that it has a laid-back, sporty vibe, and I think it has a more professional side as well – I can imagine an adult [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] as well as a child/teen. I imagine a [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] to be outgoing and fun-loving, maybe a little impish in an endearing way, and very sweet as well. However, I can also imagine a quieter, more bookish [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] who loves reading and science. I think [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] is a great choice!
Also, as someone whose name has a negative meaning (it means “weary”), I love my name regardless and the meaning doesn’t bother me! I understand wanting a special meaning for your child’s name, but I don’t think it’s the end of the world to have a less than ideal meaning.
I love [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] - warm, cool, friendly and charming!
It feels a bit outdoorsy and rugged - muddy boots, jumping in puddles, autumn leaves, games of football, laughing with friends - but it’s also easily cosy, reading books full of facts, spending hours building with lego.
I’ve met two very different Brodies - one super cheerful, very smiley, friendly and cuddly, up for anything, fearless and ready to try most things. The other was serious, smart, a little bit stubborn, but liked to know and understand things, to tell you facts or stories.
I like [name_m]Brodie[/name_m]! I’ve known several over the years if all ages - from my age to a baby!
It feels known but not overdone, easy to say and pronounce. This might check the classic-ish box for dad. But it feels nature-y and rustic to me too for your likes.
I think [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] may be the perfect mix for you!
