I really like this name and I am thinking of adding it to my list, but I would like to hear opinions about it! [name]Do[/name] you like the name, love it, dislike it? What kind of girl do you picture with this name?
Thanks!

Iām not a fan because it sounds kind of harsh & male to me, like [name]Bruno[/name] or [name]Brunhilde[/name]. [name]Just[/name] sort of gruff and heavy.
I also think that names with obvious literary references can have a kind of pretentious vibe about them. I personally like names that reference the parentās interests more subtly. I think names like that make a statement like, āI consider myself very well-readā, so the name sort of announces to the world for your child āI come from a family that considers themselves intellectual.ā Maybe thatās exactly what you like about the name, in which case itās a great choice. Why not name your kid after a writer who moved you in some way. Anyway itās something to think about and I have seen posts on the subject in these message boards.
Personally I would put it in the middle.
It sounds too masculine in my opinion. I donāt think it would flatter a young lady at all. Agree with pp, though works in middle.
My first thought is that I love it! I donāt see gruff and heavy but think about it more like [name]Bronwen[/name]- feminine, spunky, cute. Nickname [name]Bron[/name] is cute too.
You will get asked a LOT if you like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] (or pick another [name]Bronte[/name]). We named our little boy [name]Bowie[/name] because we love the name, but the first question is always whether we are huge fans of [name]David[/name] [name]Bowie[/name].
That is a good perspective, taz. Thanks for your input! I see what you mean about how literary names can come across as pretentious. I guess that could also depend on what the siblings were named. [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Atticus[/name], and [name]Salinger[/name] would be ridiculously pretentious whereas [name]Bronte[/name] might be softened with siblings named say, [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Willa[/name]. Anyway, the pretentious factor is a great thing to keep in mind, so thanks. Also, I do love [name]Bronte[/name] in the middle spot.
It reminds me of the [name]Bronte[/name] sisters.
I think itās interesting and artistic sounding.
I donāt love it as a first name for a girl.
I like it as a middle name only-my current combo is [name]Violet[/name] [name]Bronte[/name]. I can see how people see it as harsh, but I think it just makes the name stronger.
Itās quite a widely accepted girlsā name in Australia. I think itās nice. I donāt think itās generally very well received in [name]America[/name].
I think [name]Bronte[/name] is really pretty! I picture it much less harsh than people make it, and very feminine. It sounds almost light, and soft to me. I can see how strong it is, but I think itās really pretty. And I think it pairs really well with [name]Violet[/name]. [name]Violet[/name] [name]Bronte[/name]. I think in the middle itās great, and paired with a softer girlās name works really nicely. [name]Aliya[/name] [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Ella[/name] [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Jane[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] - hm, maybe not, Two authors in 1 name might be waaay too much, but you get my point. [name]Bronte[/name] [name]Violetta[/name]. Thatās pretty.
@Tay2thestars - [name]Violet[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] is so pretty! Soft, sweet, [name]Violet[/name] with the stronger [name]Bronte[/name]. Swoon worthy. (haha first time ever using swoon, cool word!)
I think the sound of it is super harsh and unattractive⦠just makes me think of ābrawnyā and ābrontosaurusā. I did know a girl named [name]Bronte[/name], she was rather quirky so I guess she pulled it off. But I still really donāt like it!
I wouldnāt use it unless I was really familiar with the authors and their work. I think itās a little silly when people name kids after famous people they donāt know much about (hence the āpretentiousnessā). I see the appeall, though ā it sounds pleasant enough and the sisters were pretty remarkable women.
That being said, all I see i brontossaurus.
I like [name]Bronte[/name]. But I also like [name]Brunhilde[/name].
Not my style Iām afraid, Iām just not keen on surnames as given names -especially one which will have just one association for most people and I agree it has a harsh sound ([name]Patrick[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] is supposed to have changed the pronunciation from āBruntyā.
If you love the Brontes I much prefer:
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Anne[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
Orā¦
[name]Maria[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Shirley[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
I know two girls with the name bronte and it works well for them, I personally donāt love the name but I prefer much more feminine names. I think paired with a pretty longer middle name it would be beautiful
Perhaps bronte [name]Elizabeth[/name] or bronte [name]Margaret[/name]
I love it.
In Australia we say the name as Bront-ee.
[name]Bronte[/name] is a posh suburb in [name]Sydney[/name].
[name]Emilia[/name]
Thank you for all the feedback so far! Any other Berries want to weigh in?
[name]Do[/name] these combos do anything to soften [name]Bronte[/name] or make it less pretentious?
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Samara[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Yelena[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
Thanks!
Not a fan of this. Reasons I donāt like it include:
