Brook for a boy?

Looking for something unusual but not weird, and strong but sweet. Has it gone to the girls, even without the E at the end? I think it’s kind of handsome! Open to other suggestions, pref one-syllable names. [name_f]TIA[/name_f]!

[name_u]Brook[/name_u] envisions bubbling brooks, which for me is a big positive. Personally I am not a fan of [name_u]Brook[/name_u] or [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] on either sex. I love [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] (go figure, not sure why not [name_u]Brook[/name_u] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] then). [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] gives you the nature feel, a bit of country, and a bit of playfulness. I have been considering putting [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] on my favorites list.

I agree with lovemysweeties. I don’t like [name_u]Brook[/name_u] or [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] for either gender, but I love [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] for boys.

The only [name_u]Brook[/name_u] I know is a woman but until I met her, I always thought [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] = feminine and [name_u]Brook[/name_u] = masculine. I definitely prefer [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] for a boy, such a handsome name!

I was just coming here to endorse [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] for a boy, but I see you all beat me to it! This is a favorite of mine. It feels preppy and masculine to me.

I agree with this

Thanks all! We love [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] too, but (I should have mentioned) our last name begins with an S. Sort of a deal breaker, no?

Go with [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]! [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Robinson[/name_m] was one of the greatest third baseman of all time.

Some will say deal breaker. I say call out [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] u[/u] a few times. [name_m]How[/name_m] does it sound to you? Have others listen as you call it out. What do they think?

I like [name_u]Brook[/name_u] for a boy. I doubt that your son will meet many girls named [name_u]Brook/name_u his age, as the name is dated for a girl.

I also like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] or Broox as some would spell it better than [name_u]Brook[/name_u].

I know a male [name_u]Brook[/name_u] and a female [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], I slightly prefer it on a male, but I am mostly neutral. I think [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] has a nice preppy cowboy juxtaposition.

It hasn’t gone girl in my opinion, but I am a person who like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] so maybe I’m not one to ask?

I have only in my whole life met one [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and that was a little girl about 3. Personally, I don’t see why it can’t work on a boy. The name has some strong, masculine sounds, [name_u]Brook[/name_u] is just a nature name and nature names are 99% unisex to me.

I think it is handsome and he’s unlikely to ever meet a girl [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]/[name_u]Brook[/name_u] but if he does, who cares? Kids are way more accepting of names nowadays than they used to be (my experience as a teacher and never seeing anyone bullied for names no matter how ridiculous or weird is where this is coming from).

And about [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], I think the S on the end would be a deal breaker. [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Sanderson[/name_m] sounds like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Anderson[/name_m] out loud, [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] sounds like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] Mith out loud and so on. The S just slides into the other S. If it were in the middle, like [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m], it wouldn’t matter to me because middles are for the parents and for meaning and no ones really going to hear it. But as a first, I find it awkward. [name_m]Just[/name_m] IMHO.

I like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] much better for a boy. It sounds handsome!

Oh, and last name starting with S might be a problem, depending on how ess-y the name is, do you know what I mean? If the flow bothers you, it might, unfortunately, be a name to put on the “names I love but sound bad with our last name” list =/

I’m not sure how I feel about [name_u]Brook[/name_u] on a boy. On the one hand, I want to fully support it–my mom dated a guy named [name_u]Brook[/name_u] years ago, and he seemed like a great guy, but I feel like the chance of meeting another [name_u]Brook[/name_u] (guy) in the whole world is extremely slim. But [name_u]Brook[/name_u] would be so cool! If you’re not brave enough to use it up front, maybe as a middle? I do like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] a lot, but I feel like it’s sort of a cop-out if [name_u]Brook[/name_u] is what you really love. If [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] for a boy (not to mention [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_u]Kai[/name_u] and all sorts of other water names), why not [name_u]Brook[/name_u]?

On paper [name_u]Brook[/name_u] does look masculine to me. But if I heard the name [name_u]Brook[/name_u] out loud, I would assume it was [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and that it was referring to a woman.

I love [name_u]Brook[/name_u] while [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] is just OK. I’d definitely go with [name_u]Brook[/name_u] with a surname that starts with S.

There’s an NBA player named [name_u]Brook[/name_u] Lopez (his twin, also an NBA player, is [name_u]Robin[/name_u])
