Brooks

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I would love some name berry advice - [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] has been my favorite name for many years but now that I am married my new last name starts with O. Are initials B.O. a deal breaker? Not only that but the LN (2 syllables) ends with S. What do you think?? Use the name or keep looking?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other names with the same vibe as [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]?

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!

[name_m]How[/name_m] often do first and final initials come up? From my experience, you usually have the option to include the middle initials, so you can avoid that. [name_u]BO[/name_u] is likely only going to get a little bit of tearing during school, but if you put initials on any clothes or your child has to initial his work, you (and he) can always use the middle name to avoid issues.

It’s not ideal, but I think it works. I can’t tell without knowing exactly what your surname sounds like, but I’m sure you’ll be able to tell whether it sounds too similar or not.
I’ve personally never hard to use my initials in school and adults are less prone to teasing that teenagers/kids are so he’d be fine when it comes to the initials thing.
If you’re looking for a similar-sounding name, what about [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_m]Boone[/name_m] or [name_m]Bram[/name_m]?

Initials aren’t really a consideration for me because I just don’t think they’re used often enough to be relevant. I do consider flow - style, syllables, alliteration and assonance - but I also weigh that up against how much my partner and I love the name, it’s meaning, whether it’s an honour name, how popular it is, and how instinctive it is to pronounce and spell. Those are things I think about for my potential children’s names. But your criteria is yours. Ultimately, neither one of those is deal breaker unless you think it is. The most important thing is how much you love the name, which it sounds you definitely do! But if you’re feeling unsure it won’t hurt to look for other names and just see what happens.

As for names with similar vibes: [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_m]Chance[/name_m], [name_u]Walker[/name_u], [name_m]Austin[/name_m], [name_m]Slade[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_m]Flint[/name_m], [name_u]Lennox[/name_u], [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_u]Remy[/name_u], [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_m]Cliff[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Ander[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Preston[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Beck[/name_u], [name_m]Kane[/name_m] and [name_u]Cody[/name_u].

I don’t think it’s a huge issue. If it’s your favorite name, it definitely shouldn’t be disqualifying. I agree with a previous poster that [name_m]Wells[/name_m] has a very similar vibe to [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]. Other than that: [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], Ames, [name_u]Alden[/name_u], [name_m]Holden[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].
