[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
We are expecting a little brother for [name_f]Anya[/name_f] in a few months, but we’re really struggling to agree on a boys name.
We live in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand, but our family has Dutch and Greek backgrounds. As the kids have their father’s Greek surname, we’ve agreed to go with more northern European first names (as we did with our daughter [name_f]Anya[/name_f]). However, we also want it to be pronounced fairly easily by English speakers.
These are the names we’ve (or I’ve) considered so far (we’re finding it hard to agree):
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m] (worried that the meaning is a bit macho)
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m] (I like it pronounced the Russian/Spanish way, rather than eye-van)
[name_m]Lev[/name_m] (as in [name_m]Lev[/name_m] Tolstoy, the Russian form of [name_m]Leo[/name_m], this is by far my favourite, but my partner doesn’t like it very much)
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] (pronunciation issues?)
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] (not sure about this one, but my partner likes it)
I like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Gustav[/name_m], but we already know too many little boys nicknamed [name_u]Gus[/name_u]!
I also like names like [name_u]Niko[/name_u], [name_m]Luka[/name_m], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], however these are far too popular in our community.
Any opinions on the names above appreciated, would you know how to pronounce [name_m]Emil[/name_m] if you saw it written for example?
Thanks so much!
