We are expecting our second child, a boy, in [name_u]January[/name_u]. We already have a two year old daughter named [name_u]Dagny[/name_u].
We had a few girls names in the running (Himilsy, [name_f]Aeronwen[/name_f], and Auxerre) but are at a complete loss now for a boy’s name.
Previously considered but no longer in the running were:
Euclid (we live in [name_m]Cleveland[/name_m] and this name is tied to a city, a street, a beach, and so on. Therefore not very usable by us).
[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] the name and the nn [name_m]Lock[/name_m] but I think it makes us sound like uber fans of either the BBC show or of naming our children from literature.
[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]/Aero - Still like but I don’t think it quite works.
As you can probably see, we’re fairly adventurous namers so please no common-ish recommendations (the “Aidens” for example).
I’d prefer to stay away from names starting with F and ending in en, in, or on. Our last name is [name_m]Ferguson[/name_m] so I don’t like how those names sound together.
Whoa, you asked me to comment! I am a star here, aren’t I? Let’s see.
First of all, I love [name_u]Dagny[/name_u]. She makes me think of Grieg’s music and it’s lovely. [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] [name_m]Ferguson[/name_m] has the flowing g-s, I like it.
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] came to mind but of course he is matchy.
Well, [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] is downmarket and trying-to-be-cool to me. Aires, maybe?
Euclid is a cool guy but he doesn’t quite go with sis. [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] is fun and lovable and I love him with Dags.
Ideas:
[name_m]Henry[/name_m](it’s popular, yep but [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are so neat!)
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]/[name_m]Rufus[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
Archimedes
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_m]Pierce[/name_m]/[name_m]Lars[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
What about Whitlock or Hemlock instead of [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]? Also I suppose a boy named Cirrus could have [name_m]Lock[/name_m] as a nickname since it means lock of hair. But I think just “[name_m]Locke[/name_m]” as in the philosopher might be a good fit. [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] & [name_m]Locke[/name_m] [name_m]Ferguson[/name_m]?
