Brother for Daisy

I’ve finally managed to compile a list of boys names we like, struggling somewhat to connect with any so I’m hoping if I can refine the list something will click.

Our daughter is Daisy so I’d like something that sits well alongside her name, and our surname is

In no particular order

Samuel / Sam
August
Jasper
Henry
Oscar
Asher
Miles
Theo
Jude
Jack
Otis

Oh my goodness, I love your list! With big sister [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], I’d particularly rate [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m].

[name_m]Sam[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] certainly work too, they just don’t make the top tier for me because they are a bit less cheerful and bright than [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. By this criteria, I should also put [name_m]Henry[/name_m] here, but he’s in my top 5 boy names and I think ‘Daisy and Henry’ would be utterly adorable, so he’s a special case

How do you feel about the repeating S sounds in a potential first name with your surname? I like a bit of sibilance, which most of your list contains, but I think [name_m]Otis[/name_m] F__ is a little tricky to say with the repeating short i sound too. I think [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] sound particularly good with your last name.

All in all, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are the two standouts for me. I hope this topic will be helpful in helping you organise how you feel about these names :green_heart:

@EdgeOfTheMeadow thanks so much, really helps to see what others feel works.

I hadn’t actually realised how Otis sounded with our surname but you’re right, it is a little tricky and we have already ruled out other names that don’t flow for various reasons so that’s definitely something to think about!

Fab list!

These are the names I like + find easy to say with your last name / have best flow imo:

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_m]Sam[/name_m] (stand-alone)

(There are others I like - [name_m]Jude[/name_m] & [name_m]Otis[/name_m] specifically - but I don’t find them especially user friendly with FG)

Then from this list, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] seem to be the most charming & debonair with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! If you want something more grounded and “pure”/straightforward, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_m]Sam[/name_m]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is smart but it’s very popular and unless it’s your fave, would avoid a second two syllable plus Y ending right after [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!

Great list. I’d go [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_m]Otis[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m]- this is such a sweet sibling set; it’s a perfect storybook match!
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and Samuel/Sam- this has such a nice vintage vibe
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_m]August[/name_m]- reminds me so much of summer

@EloiseT thank you! How you’ve grouped the names is quite similar to my own thoughts. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] tends to hover around the 90s here but two y endings is also something I have slight reservations about.

@Casea33 @Greyblue @Maria_Bennett @daisydarcy @ac9nec5 thank you all! Interesting to see a few of the names popping up more than once and giving me more to think about

I love the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] for D@isy’s sibling! [name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_m]August[/name_m]. I adore word names and I think they create amazing sets. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]August[/name_m] have amazing meanings. They’re charming, lively, colorful and friendly.
[name_f]My[/name_f] top 5 would be complete with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is timeless, gentle and very handsome. [name_m]Theo[/name_m] is adorable, charismatic and peaceful.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]!

Here are my thoughts on the brother names:

Samuel/Sam-Completely perfect. [name_m]Classic[/name_m], handsome, kind, easy to say & spell but not over done. [name_m]Just[/name_m] has the right amount of lovable charm as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_m]Sam[/name_m] could easily be playing at the creek or picking wild flowers together. So adorable!

August-I love [name_m]August[/name_m], too. It’s a great balance of rugged outdoorsy but also gentle. It’s a bit popular it seems…love the nns [name_m]Augie[/name_m] & [name_m]Gus[/name_m] though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like those? They may or may not be unavoidable.

Jasper-I don’t know why I don’t like this one. It’s a name I should like, but something about the sound of [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] sounds sinister and/or goofy. Which is weird, because I like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] a lot & don’t mind Jass. I like [name_m]James[/name_m] nn Jass.

Henry-Handsome lovable name, but every single boy I meet between the ages of newborn-thirteen or so is named [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. It’s out of control! I mostly like it for the nn [name_m]Hank[/name_m] anyway, & have recently become content with just [name_m]Hank[/name_m] as a full name.

Oscar-So cute. Quirky & vintage & not terribly common. Great with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

Asher-I like it. It has a cool vibe. Doesn’t feel completely cohesive with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as some of the others, but it doesn’t not fit.

Miles-This one doesn’t do much for me. Not sure why. I like [name_m]Milo[/name_m] more. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is way common in my area, too.

Theo-Also super popular, but really cute. As much as I’m on board with just [name_m]Hank[/name_m], just [name_m]Theo[/name_m] seems like it needs to be a nn for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

Jude-Ooh, beautiful. It’s calm & artsy and cool without trying. Not too popular either. I also love [name_m]Julian[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jude[/name_m].

Jack-Love it! Really popular, but honestly most of the Jacks I run across are usually [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] instead; and sometimes [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] isn’t nearly as good as simple classic [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. Despite the popularity, still one of my favorites.

Otis-So cute! Not at all popular, but well know & easy to say & spell. [name_f]Vintage[/name_f], cuddly but masculine.

Sooo, in conclusion, my favorites are [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a close third.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Absolutely love D@isy :blossom:

Looking at your list I love with your surname as a brother to D@isy would be [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_m]Miles[/name_m]!

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is my top girl name, and I have also had [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m] (Theodore), [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and [name_m]Jude[/name_m] on my list for boys so those are my top choices from your list

Of those with your surname I would choose [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a bit more popular then [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but I think both flow well and kind of fit nicely with the vibe I get from [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (a sort of 1920s vibe but also cottagecore soft and flowy)

@Estrela @Jen94 @lucy_halo1 @TheDogLover @tori101 @mololy thank you all so much for your replies

@Etymology we didn’t realise the link until we had named Daisy, and all our other girls name choices are somehow literary related so it must be our style! Thanks for the suggestions, Leo and Louis were on our longer list.

@MichelleM thanks for your thoughts on the names, the imagery of Sam and Daisy really stood out

@Ehrob1 George is on our longer list, and Thomas is on the list for middle name contenders!
