[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! We have a 4 year old daughter named [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. After a 2 1/2 year journey with secondary infertility we have FINALLY matched with a baby (boyš) who we will be adopting after he is born in [name_f]May[/name_f] 2026!
[name_f][/name_f]
We really like the name [name_m]Grant[/name_m], but seeing as 1) we have 5 months before the birth to plan and 2) Iām a huge name nerd that thinks about names 24/7 on a good day, but now *25/7* now that I have an actual baby comingā- we want advice!!! What other first names for a boy would you suggest that go with our daughter Evaās name?
[name_f][/name_f]
Criteria
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Easy[/name_m] to say and spell (hence why we prefer [name_m]Grant[/name_m] over Grahamā¦the āhamā is just a huge no go even though the name sounds nice)
[name_f][/name_f]
Is male gender definitive (for lack of better word?). When you hear his name or read it we want people to automatically know heās a boy.
[name_f][/name_f]
Is uncommon but familiar. (ie is recognized right off the bat as a NAME [name_f][/name_f]- not a noun or word eg [name_m]Coast[/name_m] or Hawkāfirst and foremost. BUT He will be the only one with that name in his class)
[name_f][/name_f]
Must be timeless, [name_m]Not[/name_m] timestamped. (No to anything that gives the vibe āOh so you must have been born in the 2020s!ā [name_f]Or[/name_f] āThat is my dadās name and he was born in 1990ā)
[name_f][/name_f]
Our short list so far: [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Ben[/name_m] (Benjamin as full name), [name_m]Turner[/name_m], [name_m]Owen[/name_m], [name_m]Charlie[/name_m]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] but canāt use [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] because that double A is just asking for trouble in spelling!
Congratulations! I love [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] fits really well with your criteria! I also like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Owen[/name_m] (though both quite popular).
Thanks for the feedback. [name_m]Dean[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Davis[/name_m], and [name_m]Grady[/name_m] have definitely been on my radar as well. [name_f]So[/name_f] itās awesome that you mentioned them!
Of your short list, I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] & [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] the best. I would even go [name_m]Charles[/name_m] nn [name_m]Charlie[/name_m]. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] goes really well with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and is more classic.
[name_f][/name_f]
It could work but [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is quite dated where Iām from and find it a little sharp/intense. I like [name_m]Owen[/name_m] but I donāt think he matches as well with the sparkly & international [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. And [name_m]Turner[/name_m] is sing sing/staccato with [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and itās more contemporary imo, though it otherwise could work.
*I wouldnāt worry about [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] being tricky because of the spelling. Itās a well known and ātimelessā name [name_f][/name_f]- and I just canāt see it being a problem. Itās also a great name and choice [name_f][/name_f]- would have more faith in it & keep on list! [name_f]Eva[/name_f] & [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] would be my pick even over [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] & Charlie/Charles (though all very close running).
Congratulations! I absolutely love [name_m]Grant[/name_m] with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] ā he is established, timeless, and so handsome!
[name_f][/name_f]
A few other suggestions for you (apologies for any repeats!): [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Seth[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m] āSamā [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jones[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lee[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Davis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reid[/name_m]
Re: [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. Thanks for the feedback [name_f][/name_f] We are considering āGrant Isaacā because we adore [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] so much and almost cant bear to leave it behind! [name_m]Will[/name_m] keep it as a first name consideration though.
[name_m]Grant[/name_m] fits your criteria well!! I like Ben/jamin, [name_m]Owen[/name_m], and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m], though the first two are in the US Top 15 and Top 30 respectively, if that worries you.
Iām surprised by how much I like [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. I havenāt heard of it for babies recently, but I think it works really well. It definitely fits your criteria, and I would say it doss so better than your other options, which are much more common.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Harris[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ellis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Felix[/name_m] (feels like this name is always suggested on name sites, but actually hasnāt ever been in the top 100 in the States) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ivan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nelson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sterling[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Wilson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gordon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Toby[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Wade[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gareth[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Anders[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
I do think [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] is quite unisex though
[name_m]Grant[/name_m] is a great choice! Itās funny you mention your concern about [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] ā I just learned yesterday that it is the most commonly changed name on birth certificates because of spelling errors (Issac ā> Isaac). But that being said, itās still on my list, and I wouldnāt let it stop me!
Congratulations! And your daughter has such a beautiful, elegant name.
Out of the names on your shortlist, [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is my top pick with Eva, though it is very popular. I also think [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] works well, but last year in the US it was slightly more popular for girls, so if you donāt want a unisex name I would avoid. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is kind of dated where I live, but in the US I think itās a good choice with Eva. [name_m]Owen[/name_m] is very popular at the moment (almost the same as [name_m]Leo[/name_m]) and I donāt think [name_m]Turner[/name_m] matches with Eva, theyāre very different styles in my opinion.
Youāve had a lot of great suggestions already so sorry for any repeats:
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Max[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_m]Ellis[/name_m]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]
From your shortlist I absolutely love [name_m]Turner[/name_m]! [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] fit beautifully as well. Would you like [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] spelling?
Congratulations! [name_m]Grant[/name_m] (and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] Isaac) fits so wonderfully with [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. Recognizable, but familiar.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Owen[/name_m] is also so handsome. [name_m]Owen[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] would be darling. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Charlie[/name_m] fits, but I know so many Charlieās! I also would say that on paper, I wouldnāt necessarily say boy as itās shifting to more unisex. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ben[/name_m] ā really common imo. But maybe [name_m]Benson[/name_m] or [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] to spice the full name up. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Turner[/name_m] ā I really like this too.
[name_m]Grant[/name_m] is a great choice. [name_m]The[/name_m] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] in our family was married to [name_m]Myron[/name_m] so that name comes to mind for me. Probably falls under the ātime stamped ā category though. I think [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is perfect.
Congratulations on your adoption! [name_f][/name_f] Such wonderful news. [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] is such a beautiful name (one of my absolute favorites!), and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is so lovely as well. [name_f][/name_f] Iām also very fond of [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_m]Owen[/name_m], and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] If you are in the U.S. I might steer clear of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] since itās one of the top 20 most used boys names in the country.
