What other boys names would you pair with [name]Frank[/name] in a sibset? It is my husband’s name (not short for anything, just [name]Frank[/name]) and we will carry on the family tradition of naming our first boy [name]Frank[/name] so I’m wondering what other boys names you think go with it. Below is my list of boys names that I like as well, in no particular order. What do you think goes best? Also, what would you think of a sibset with only 1-syllable first names? Suggestions welcome!
To me, [name]Frank[/name] sounds old-fashioned in a classy, but not “classic” was (by classic I mean things like [name]David[/name] and [name]Michael[/name] that never go out of style). So I’m not sure about using names like [name]Declan[/name], [name]Tate[/name], [name]Haden[/name], Dashielle, or [name]Linden[/name] which give a more modern vibe to me. Meanwhile [name]August[/name] seems to go too far in the other direction, too ancient (though lovely in its own right). I think [name]Emmett[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Clark[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Graham[/name], and [name]Arthur[/name] work best, as they all have the same sort of vintage vibe that [name]Frank[/name] has.
I like the name [name]Frank[/name]!
I agree completely with the previous poster.
In my opinion…
Go perfectly: [name]Hugh[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Ned[/name]/[name]Edward[/name]
Go well: [name]James[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Clark[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Emmett[/name]
Passable maybe: [name]Gregory[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Don[/name]'t go at all: [name]Owen[/name], [name]Linden[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Tate[/name], [name]Haden[/name], [name]Declan[/name]
Other names that would go well: [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Louis[/name], [name]Charles[/name], [name]Harrold[/name], [name]George[/name]
Although I’ve always thought of [name]Frank[/name] as a nn for [name]Francis[/name] or [name]Franklin[/name], I think it can stand on its own quite well. It’s simple, blunt and speaks for itself! From your list, I would hesitate to choose [name]Linden[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Haden[/name], [name]Emmett[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Graham[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] as they have a more modern feel to them. I think the names below would work well. My faves with [name]Frank[/name] are [name]Edmund[/name] (I actually have uncles who are brothers named [name]Frank[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]), [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Ned[/name] and [name]Charles[/name].
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Ned[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Just[/name] wanted to add, though I’m not sure if it would bother you at all since this is presumably the slang of a country other than yours, but to the best of my knowledge [name]Ned[/name] is a slightly derogatory slang term in [name]Scotland[/name] stemming (supposedly) from [name]Non[/name] Educated Delinquent. So there is that. I think usage is dying out a bit in favour of more universal terms, but I do believe in making informed decisions where these things are concerned!
[name]Frank[/name] is fabulous! I had an Uncle [name]Frank[/name] whose brothers were [name]George[/name] ([name]Geordie[/name]) & [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name]).
So, thinking in a strong and retro vein:
[name]George[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Leon[/name]/[name]Leo[/name]
[name]August[/name]/[name]Gus[/name]/[name]Augie[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]/[name]Lewis[/name]/[name]Lou[/name]
[name]Harold[/name]/[name]Hal[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]/[name]Hank[/name]
[name]John[/name]/[name]Johnny[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]/[name]Eddie[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Clarence[/name]/[name]Clancy[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]/[name]Artie[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]/[name]Phil[/name]/[name]Pip[/name]
[name]Stephen[/name]/[name]Steve[/name]
And that’s where my brain freezes. I know there are a few repeats, but I hope there’s something in there tthat grabs you. Good [name]Luck[/name]!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Frank[/name], you have some great choices to pick from, and I personally have no problem with a sibset of all one syllable names. There are enough of them! Of the names you listed, [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]James[/name] strike me as the best fits, and I agree with other posters on some of them that are less solid fits (you can, of course, do what you like : D!).
My only pause with [name]Henry[/name] btw is that some people might nn him [name]Hank[/name] (very rhymey to [name]Frank[/name]!)! I don’t think that has to be a deal breaker, first of all it might not happen and second of all, if it does, oh well! But just wanted to be sure it had crossed your mind and you’d accept it.
We strongly considered [name]Frank[/name] - some of our other choices were:
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
and, my favorite that we chose for DS: [name]George[/name]
[name]Clark[/name] really jumped out at me. It’s classic but “new again” and goes well with [name]Frank[/name].
I also thought of suggesting [name]Ross[/name], which has a similar feel to me. Possibly [name]Cole[/name]–sounds nice with [name]Frank[/name] but a bit more modern/trendy.
[name]Linden[/name] is one of my favorite names, as is [name]August[/name], but not sure how they would flow with [name]Frank[/name]. Very different “feels.” Almost sounds like they come from different families. I like [name]Haden[/name], which comes from the same generation as [name]Frank[/name], but unfortunately sounds way too much like [name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Jayden[/name]. He would be lost in a sea of -adens at school. [name]James[/name] is an awesome name, but I really can’t stand the traditional nicknames. [name]Don[/name]'t know why a one-syllable name needs a nn though.
thanks for all of the feedback, I really appreciate it!
to me, the name [name]Frank[/name] has a retro vibe, sort of '50s/60s.
[name]Linden[/name]- MN only according to the hubs, reminds me of LBJ, prefer this spelling
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]James[/name]- I also don’t like the traditional nicknames and my husband is the nickname king…he would surely call him [name]Jimmy[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Ned[/name]- probably only used as a nickname for [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]- I think [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Hammett[/name], which makes me think of detectives and somehow in my mind this is tangentially connected with [name]Frank[/name] and sounds era appropriate
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Haden[/name]- more MN potential, I think [name]Hayden[/name] [name]Fox[/name] from Coach, prefer no y, sounds more masculine to me than other -aden names
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]August[/name]- love the [name]Gus[/name] nickname, I feel like [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Frank[/name] sound like they could be brothers
my husband will never go for these but I do really like them
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Tate[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Charles[/name], [name]Edward[/name], and [name]Henry[/name] are family names and since [name]Frank[/name] is also a family name, these are high on the list- though I never thought of [name]Hank[/name] from [name]Henry[/name]- bad with [name]Frank[/name]! Thanks for mentioning that jesba.
To me, [name]Frank[/name] is short and no-nonsense and kind of old-fashioned, but in a good way. I’d do something along the lines of [name]Henry[/name] or [name]James[/name].
