[name_u]Baby[/name_u] #2 is due in [name_u]July[/name_u] and hubby and I don’t like anything. There are names that are okay but nothing feels right.
Our 6 year old’s name is [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] (middles names are after both his grandfathers/great grandfathers) and we’d like something that compliments it. #2’s middles will be [name_m]Charles[/name_m](hubby wants this for sure) and maybe [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_u]Rae[/name_u] or something else entirely. lol
Hubby’s extended family is huge (but close enough that we see most of them at least once a year) and I’d like something that hasn’t been used before on either side of the family or with our close friends.
Our older son thinks we should name his brother [name_m]Adam[/name_m] or [name_u]Carson[/name_u]. He also likes [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (a cousin just used this). For context the girl names we agreed on were [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (a cousin also just used this) and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
Names we both kind of like are [name_m]Laird[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. I also like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Angus[/name_m], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] and [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]. Again, though, none of them feel right. I’ve always been of the mind that I want to wait and meet baby before finalizing a name but I still like to have a list.
Any help or insight on name ideas or how to overcome this dislike for everything lol would be great.
My suggestion is to try some names out. If you or your partner loathe a name entirely, then don’t bother. But if for example, you love [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and he just thinks it’s okay… Try it out a couple days. See if it feels good to say it or silly. One of you may warm up to a name the other suggested that you previously felt no spark for. And of course, use the 3 names you do agree on and see if you tire of them or they start to feel right.

Yeah, I think if you start using a name that you’re thinking of using, even just talking to your belly or when you’re talking about the baby - use the name and see how it feels saying it out loud! You will probably know if it doesn’t fit right.

Wow, thank you. There are so many great suggetions and not too many are already used within our family. I saw a few family/friend names suggested and our dog’s name. lol I’ve run them by my hubby but he didn’t say too much. I’ll let him read them on his own and see what he says. :). Also, we have a close relative who is [name_u]Finn[/name_u] so any of the [name_u]Finn[/name_u] names are out for sure.

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is another name I really like and thought about maybe using it in one of the middle spots but I wasn’t sure. (My great grandfather was [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and I’ve always liked the name a la [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but if I was to use it, I know my grandmother would make it all about her when really it has nothing to do with her. It kind of puts a damper on the name). I agree [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] can be a bit of a mouthful, it doesn’t have a great flow in either order. [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_u]Rae[/name_u] are after my Uncle who passed a few years ago.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] was a name love growing up and it still holds a place in my heart. I don’t think I’d use it now though.
I absolutely love [name_m]Struan[/name_m] but being in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] I’m not sure if it would hold up here. My husband wasn’t entirely opposed to it either which is good.
My father is from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] so I definitely like Scottish/Celtic names.

Nope, no nicknames. Hubby thought he’d call him Lach ([name_m]Lock[/name_m]) but it never caught on. All his friends at school seem to use his full name too.
I don’t know if this is helpful, but I think you already have a great list to choose from. Boy names are hard, and my partner and I were in the same boat–we just ended up picking a name that we both liked the most, even though neither of us “loved” it. We trust that if LO turns out to be a boy and we use this name, we will grow to love it more over time.
Now, with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], I have to say that:
I love [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] go together without looking too matchy, and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] would be sweet.
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] would be my second choice. Definitely would recommend if you are going for a sibset with more gravitas.
My third choice, that you mentioned you liked, would be [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. I don’t think that it’s too repetitive with big brother’s MN [name_u]James[/name_u], and in fact would provide a neat tie between their names that they could share.
As a final option, I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] would go nicely with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and your favorite girl names.
I’m laughing at this thread. I have a [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], born last [name_f]September[/name_f], who was almost [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]! We also considered [name_m]Killian[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_u]Galen[/name_u], and [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] for the boys. And when I daydream of another brother, I consider [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_m]Gordon[/name_m], or [name_m]Graham[/name_m].

I don’t think we’d use [name_m]Charles[/name_m] as a first name. We know too many girls who are [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (multiple spellings) and I really want him to have his own name as a first. We’ll use family names as middles hence [name_m]Charles[/name_m] in that spot.
