Hello, I’m new posting here but have been searching for name ideas since the birth of my first child last year, a boy named [name]Nico[/name] (well, [name]Nicola[/name] [name]Francesco[/name] for his Italian nonno and dad, but [name]Nico[/name] for short).
OH is Italian, I’m English. The problem finding names is that names I love in Italian, OH’s family hate! They say they are ‘old men’ or ‘spinster’ names, whereas the English names they love are just too chavvy or fogeyish for me!
We don’t actually know yet if we are having another boy or a girl… but here are some shortlists, i’d appreciate comments/ideas! Surname is Alessandrelli, so a bit of a mouthful!
We both agree on:
[name]Leonardo[/name]
[name]Luciano[/name]
[name]Lysander[/name] (well, I have almost convince OH)
[name]Alessandro[/name] we [name]LOVE[/name] but probably too ridiculous with the surname
I like:
[name]Raphael[/name] (but too many L sounds with the surname?)
[name]Angelo[/name]
[name]Maximus[/name]
[name]Rocco[/name] (but OH’s family said NO [name]WAY[/name]! apparently in [name]Italy[/name] it’s considered a name for an ‘old man with yellow teeth who works in a field’)
[name]Leonardo[/name] [name]James[/name] (though [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Nico[/name] is too matchy) and [name]Luciano[/name] (My fave!) [name]Thomas[/name]! I also like [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] and [name]Lysander[/name] [name]James[/name] ([name]Ander[/name] is great with [name]Nico[/name]).
Thanks! I quite like [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Nico[/name] together, although my brother is [name]Leo[/name], and OH wasn’t sure about [name]Leonardo[/name] if other siblings were jealous! I said maybe we could shorten [name]Leonardo[/name] to [name]Lenny[/name] (OH doesn’t like that idea… ‘[name]Lenny[/name] in The Simpsons’ was his response). My mum thinks they go great together though [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] is a lovely strong sounding name as well. Thank you!
I love [name]Alessandro[/name], but it does not work with the surname Alessandrelli.
My pick from your agreed upon list would be [name]Luciano[/name]. [name]Luciano[/name] [name]James[/name] Alessandrelli sounds great to me! Although [name]James[/name] may be a bit “boring,” I think it is a great balance for a lively fn/ln combo.
If you go with a different vibrant Italian fn, I’d stick with a mn of [name]James[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name] from Dad’s list. (To me, [name]Dylan[/name] just doesn’t fit well with any of the fn options.)
[name]Raphael[/name] Alessandrelli sounds so dreamy and handsome to me, but I can see why it might be too many L’s. But I’m biased, [name]Raphael[/name] (and [name]Angelo[/name]) are some of my favorite names, so I’m always encouraging people to use them.
After much much MUCH deliberation, we decided on the name [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Tommaso[/name]…and it was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make! And although I had originally suggested [name]Lysander[/name], in the last week before our handsome son was born i suddenly went against it, feeling it didn’t sound ‘friendly’ enough to be a brother of [name]Nico[/name]… and thought it was too big a name for a baby. However, we both love the name now! [name]Tommaso[/name] is because I wanted him to have some Italian in his name and it’s a family name for both of us ([name]Thomas[/name] in my family however).
I would now always advise people to go with their ORIGINAL instincts on names
I just want more babies now so I can use up all the other lovely names we thought of!
[name]Leviticus[/name], [name]Levi[/name] for short.
[name]Nico[/name] and [name]Levi[/name]…two of my very favorite names…paired together!
[name]Malakai[/name]/[name]Malachi[/name]. [name]Kai[/name] for short.
[name]Rafal[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
