Brother for Nikita?

So far we agreed to name a brother for [name_f]Nikita[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]! Although we love the name and especially the nickname [name_m]Vanya[/name_m], I was wondering if some more modern variation could be used? What do you think about: [name_m]Jovan[/name_m], [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], [name_m]Ivik[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m] or any other that you might think of? [name_m]Evan[/name_m] we can not use. Thanks

The variants you listed are all nice, and [name_m]Ivik[/name_m] in particular could be an interesting compromise between [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Victor[/name_m] (looking at one of your previous topic), but I still like [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] “Vanya” best of all, especially with [name_f]Nikita[/name_f].

I was a bit worried that it was way too traditional? [name_m]Even[/name_m] old fashion? [name_f]Or[/name_f] not so much? Where do you put emphasis?)

Well, I think “old fashioned” names have a lot of charm actually, so I may not be the best person to give you advice, haha.

Instinctively, I would pronounce [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] with emphasis on the second syllable (however, my first language is [name_f]French[/name_f] so that may not be right).

[name_m]Ivan[/name_m] is lovely [name_f][/name_f]- not too old fashioned at all!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Ivo[/name_m] and [name_m]Ivik[/name_m] are cool [name_f][/name_f]- maybe [name_m]Van[/name_m] might appeal as a modern nickname?

[name_f]Nikita[/name_f] and [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] are lovely together! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Vanya[/name_m] is so lovely, too!

I’ve always really liked [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], but I’m loving [name_m]Jovan[/name_m] so much for you here! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Jovan[/name_m] nn [name_m]Vanya[/name_m] is so unexpected and fun, and I love [name_f]Nikita[/name_f] and [name_m]Jovan[/name_m] together!

[name_m]Ivo[/name_m] is cool but I saw it at Costco as a computer name or something, just an FYI. I would want to go with a variant of [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] if it were me. [name_m]Jovan[/name_m] is cool. [name_m]Zane[/name_m] might work.

You probably mean Evo))) you are right!

Yeah! [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Jovan[/name_m] are probably the top! Thanks for the Zane!how do you pronounce [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]? If I can ask?

Like eye-vun with the emphasis on the first part. I am Canadian.

thanks! I could never think that [name_m]Zane[/name_m] was another variant of Ivan…. [name_f]Or[/name_f] John… do you know what is the origin?

It seems to be Northern Italian or more specifically Venetian in origin. [name_m]John[/name_m] in Italian is [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m] or [name_m]Gianni[/name_m], which in Venetian dialect can be Zuanni → Zanni → [name_m]Zane[/name_m]. Fun fact, this is actually where the [name_f]English[/name_f] word “zany” is thought to come from, due to a type of trickster character in commedia dell’arte by this name.
