Help me berries! I’m thrilled to be having a second baby boy, except for the fact that I hate boy names! They all feel boring to me. I have a list that is mostly recycled from my last pregnancy, and I’m guessing his name is one of these (because I’ve searched 1000 times), but I don’t [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] any of them, the way that I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] my DD’s name.
Our current list -
[name_u]August[/name_u] (DH’s favorite and our definite frontrunner)
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m], nn [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] (my favorite but DH isnt wild about it)
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] (our 4 year old keeps suggesting this one)
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m], called [name_m]Harry[/name_m] (our second fave)
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Booker[/name_m]
I’m still hoping there’s a name out there that I’ve overlooked and that will finally make me swoon.
Can you please suggest names that pair great with big brother - [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. I think I’m going to be saying these two names together a lot for the next 10-15+ years, so a name that sounds great with [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is our #1 consideration.
Only restrictions - no R names, no strongly biblical names. Last name sounds like “Right”
I’ll add:
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Brendan[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
I really like [name_m]Jack[/name_m]! What about [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_u]Noel[/name_u] or [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]?
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn [name_m]Alec[/name_m] would be better ? A more masculine nickname that resemble the sound of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] might make your husband and son happy?
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are great too ~
Thanks everyone! Glad to see so many like August. It was almost Simon’s name, then it was almost his middle name, but at the last minute I nixed it as the middle in case we had another boy and wanted it as a FN. So maybe that’s a sign…
A few of these are or have been on my “unofficial” longer list - Arthur (DH is lukewarm), Calvin (LOVE the nn Cal, but hesitate due to the Calvinism association), George, Julian/Jude, Felix, and Nathan/Nathaniel.
Alec just makes me think of Baldwin
With Alexander - I love how strong this name is, and it’s very long history, and there’s a tradition on DH’s side of using A names. But it’s such a popular name, and I’m generally NAF of popular names, so I love the nn Sandy which is almost never used anymore as a nn, and it makes me think of Sandy Koufax and Sandy Cohen (both cool/fun associations), and it’s an honor name for us (my mom is Sandra, but never went by Sandy, so it’s not confusing). That said I get that Sandy is not everyone’s cup of tea. I think it’s one of those names that would be way cuter when it’s actually got a cute baby face attached to it (I picture a light-haired little boy in board shorts and a sunhat playing on the beach).
I think Arthur would be a frontrunner (it’s FIL’s name), if only it had a cute nn. I really dislike Art (bad association from childhood). Bear is cute, but I don’t know if I would naturally fall into the habit of calling an Arthur, Bear.
Can I ask a spinoff question - do you think [name_m]Harry[/name_m] is harder to wear in the post-[name_m]Potter[/name_m] age?
My two kids have completely different coloring/complexions, but if this little guy looks like DD, he’ll have light skin, dark brown hair, and light eyes, so [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]-like features. I wonder if he would get playfully or teasingly compared to HP, and if that’d be fun versus annoying for him? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think a kid would like sharing a name with a famous character like that? (I guess he’d have [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]/[name_m]Henry[/name_m] to fall back on if it becomes an issue).
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] were some of [name_m]Simon[/name_m]'s brothers in the Bible. They were all sons of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. That might be a theme, if you’re interested.
As soon I read the title, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] was my first thought. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] look like a really nice sibset. [name_m]Harry[/name_m] is a pretty known name, with history and a lot of namesakes ([name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Harry[/name_m], for example) so I don’t think he would be teased with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (I mean, he would probably have references but it happens with a lot of normal names like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (the [name_f]Cat[/name_f]), [name_m]Peter[/name_m] ([name_m]Pan[/name_m] or Rabbit) [name_m]Dennis[/name_m] (the Menace…))
